Rear Hatch Lock Replacement TRD Off Road

    Today noticed my rear hatch lock was sign of an attempted break in. I carry a mtb inside when I travel. Glad the driver door wasn't tried and no glass or plastic damaged. Simply cannot insert key so seems like someone just tried to jam a screwdriver in.

    I found a video that shows how the panel is removed along with the vapor barrier. Wondering if anyone has replaced the lock, and what's involved besides having a locksmith adapt the cylinder to my keys. Searched a Toyota Parts site and looks like I may be able to get just one cylinder.

    Lock cylinder and some spare panel clips just in case. Lock cylinder being re-keyed. Should be a relatively easy swap.

    Got her done. $120 out of pocket. Less than an hour to replace.

    Panel removed starting right rear corner. A bit snug but once one clip pops all come off easy. I pulled the interior lights first and unplugged the connectors. Next removed the strap 10mm bolt. Then pulled the panel. No clips damaged.

    Used a box cutter as I peeled back the vapor barrier, as the black goo stretches, so kept it neat. Then clipped it back.

    10mm socket for the nuts and the connector I unclipped from the metal tab behind it to get a better grip to separate the plug.

    Parts:
    Lock cylinder $75 delivered. Plus $15 for spare panel clips just in case.

    $30 at the locksmith to rekey.

    Dealer wanted $489.

    Wild how much dust gets behind that panel. No wonder those rear windows stick in dusty conditions.
