If there's empty lanes so people could pass: 55-ish.
Heavier traffic: I go with the flow.
    Urgency: 60-70

    Fluid dynamics.

As an aside, when I fill hot tires with air, I add 5 PSI. They are considered hot when they have gone 5 miles at 40MPH.

No faster than 70 if I’m on the interstate. 55-65 if on the 2-lane

Power demand from throttle pressure. Mine seems to downshift when brake hard below 45 hard on a steep downhill grade however nothing wrong with using motor to brake. I think the duration of brake application and the yaw and pitch sensors detect downhill and extended braking. I have a Pedal Commander and I thought it was affecting the transmission shutter at lock up below 40mph. Seems it did it on warmer hot days most so.dilapidated most. I guess it harder to build pressure with viscosity. The problem and solution. I have done it before. T4 looks new still at 100k. It does have a dark red color since I let it sit and cheese cloth and pour back in for grit. Granted iy has fixed my issue but it's coler now and hotter weather. I may strain my overdrive bands though cheese cloth and pour back in fill plug. 5th is not designed to pull or 4th really because they are high gear mileage. Even at 70 if you ask for power from pedal it should go to third. Clutches are for power pulling a not 5th. Second pic is how easy it is to get to the marked cooler and return line. Clamps and hoses to. Even power steering lines for a cooler there to. I think I will add a pint of my liquid band back in for insurance. It might have been changed once because it does have cooler and doesn't smell burnt as bad.

I got 24mpg with mods and driving normal. About 19.5 in town. My torque convertor would act up when it tried pulling shifting into 5th at 35-40. I pull into 4th manual and under 60 didn't affect mileage and it didn't run away with you. Usually in hotter weather and not always. I shut mine off in line with the button in neutral. I loose about .3 on average with 30 minutes of idling in place. You can't get that back on a tank unless you can coast to your destination. I haven't driven mostly hwy and haven't seen 24 in a while but 20 average all around. This should give me another mile a gallon and the motor will be so quick to wind on low end.

My 13 limited does best at 69. The little difference makes a difference. Even with bursts of 80-90 climbing the mountain it might only take .5 off but it's flat rest the way. Let me say if you want mileage don't put oversized tires with out regear or power mods. AT tires add rolling weight plus your 3:72 becomes a 3:54 you lose mileage. I always has a second set of wheels and Michelin because they are lighter and I hate them for rain but it's about the mileage and it saves your off road stuff. 3:72 is not that great but I think with the 4wd system is so good. I am thinking about some Hercules Terra Max 2 because make good tires, but I don't know if I want to lose the power and mileage. There are programmed shift at certain demands. You change speedometer but computer doesn't know because speedometer doesn't know. Over size tires and all look tough, but a lot of people but one and change into something they don't want to drive. You put big tires with a load rating especially, if I had big tires I would manually shift to 4th from 1st the less you use your brakes and the longer. After hearing about your grainger down coasting that may be more about amount of CO2 it produces at a certain speed. They could have put 4:10 in these then you could go up and two sizes. If you want the 4runner you can't but, supercharger and you don't have to waste any more money. I was going to put one on.my 97. One of our customers had one with everything you could for power and it didn't impress me for the money.

Do you have a 2013 Limited along with a 2001 Limited? I saw the 2001 listed in your signature and was checking to see if you got the best mileage at 69 mph in the 2001 or 2013.

Just 2013 now. I was going to move to Portugal and sold and decided just to change location. I tried to back out next day because he said it would be a month before he sold other mail vehicle. I wasn't paid but suddenly his was sold so I couldn't when he paid me. Your word is all you truly own. If you use a then it should be the best. He was Ford guy and started replacing stuff it didn't need with aftermarket parts and I just let it go. He said it drove kind of soft so he replaced struts that had never been outside Nashville. It was the Michelin tires. A lot more sidewall but it's one of the lightest tires. I hate them but that is what it had. These people put bigger tires on a wonder why.they aren't getting mileage. For Michelin weight about the same as 1-1- 2 off road tires. Kills low end you are driving same sport but your motor is in the most efficient. I had to sets. Mileage and work and AT so your not trapped.

I just checked this past weekend and I’m getting 17.9 after having Toyo Open Country R/Ts in stock size, load E, put on a month or two ago.

My husband put something similar on his but he drives a lot further to work and I’m going to look when he gets home and see what his average is.

When I asked him if I’d made a mistake getting the wheels and tires I’d wanted since I don’t go off-road every weekend, he said your money, your choice. Mileage has rarely come up for anything other than his needs maintenance more frequently than mine. He has about 106k on his 2018.

    Working on it
3/2 Lift with load E 285/70/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I get 16.0 - 16.5 mpg unless I get into strong headwinds... Then it will drop to 15.5ish.

I'm about to turn 10,000 miles and it does seem like it's running better and like my fuel econ is getting better... It's either breaking in, or it could be the weather turning colder... although I would think that would negatively impact fuel economy, not improve it.

We took it to the mountains recently and mileage improved considerably. I think I got 22mpg on one tank and averaged over 18 or so while up high...

My mileage varied a lot on my 5,000 mile road trip. Load E Wildpeaks plus rooftop basket don't help. I was getting mostly around 18-18.5, but down to 16 with big headwinds. Mountains weren't so bad, around 17-18. I got about 22.5 over 250 miles coming off the Sangre de Cristos in NM. With the basket off, I get 18.5-19.5.

11 City. 16 highway. Biggest hits, in order of lost MPG, are the front tube bumper, 285/70 M/T tires, rear bumper and skids, and the Sherpa roof rack.

Since the change in California gas formulas, where they water it down with ethanol, my gas mileage has gone down to between 19 and 20 MPG combined city and freeway. I will attribute some of it to my tire pressure dropping 2 to 3 psi (as temperatures drop, tire pressure drops with that and it’s a great time to also check spare tire pressure) I finally got around to filling them and I have hope for my future MPG dreams :D

If you're driving a 1GR V6, I've tracked every tank via Fuelly for the last 39,840 miles (as of today). The average is 17.2 MPG for the 2,327 gallons of fuel I've burned in that time frame. Average cost per gallon is ~$2.99 for a total of $6,948. Best for a tank = 20.6 (all day on the freeway), worst 14.6 (a day of trail driving).

$2.99 a gallon… if we have free and fair elections, California could be like that again. Until then, $5 at Costco or $5.59 elsewhere.

That is interesting. Here in San Diego county, all of the gasoline comes through one distribution point; near the former Qualcomm Stadium. The additives are then managed when they are put on tankers and sent out to the various stations. Costco in this region is contracted to use Techron as their additive.

Costco happens to use a higher concentration of the additive than Chevron themselves use. A problem with that was that they were selling the Techron additive in the store as well. They had to stop selling the additive in the store because there were complaints surfacing. Too much additive is bad for your fuel lines, and I believe other plastic parts of the fuel system.

I can say this much, I am very meticulous about my mileage records and have found that Mobil is the worst performing gas in SoCal with my engines and my driving style. 10% MPG difference as a minimum.

All TopTier gasolines meet minimum standards and the octane rating is a minimum. During the pandemic, and when the administration, currently in power, started making some choices about fossil fuels, the octane averages were dropping in San Diego County. So instead of being 88.1, they were coming out as 87. it has returned to somewhat normal over the last year.

I’m usually the last person to recommend getting another credit card or to get one myself, but most of the gas brands offer discounts like the one at 76 (actually Phillips 66, which has 76 & Conoco). They offered 25 cents a gallon for a couple of years but recently cut it back to 15.

There’s typically some kind of break just for paying through their app but Sam’s/Costco is nearly always less expensive than that. The max discount on most of these is when you pay through the app with their credit card. The catch is that they make up the discount with interest if you don’t pay it off every month so set up autopay for the full balance. I was only doing that with the Phillips 66 brands but BP is offering 30 cents off for the first 60 days then 15 cents after so I just got that one.

I also watch Sam’s/Costco but rarely is their price less than the other discount.

I know not everyone is in a position to do this but if you are, there’s money to be saved.

Based on 2.99 average fuel cost, I've probably spent around $19K on fuel since January 2019.

I think I've gotten similar mileage overall. I don't use Fuelly, but I know my best was 21.4, and my worst was 9.2 MPG.

    285/75/17?

Are you regeared? Mine are ~33.5" (295/70/17) and it could really use a regear. I can't even use overdrive with those tires.

    Oof!

I considered that size, but was concerned about the extra trimming/cutting/banging involved. The 295's still hit the firewall occasionally during spirited driving. :D

To be honest, bad mpg is kind of a badge of honor for me lol. I am getting 35s once these tires wear out lol.
