    Good morning.

I recently picked up a new 4r, ORP. Put new wheels and rims on yesterday. Noticed that there seems to be a large number of balance weights. Is this normal or did Discount Tire make a mistake? It looks like 3 of the 4 tires have a lot of lead on them. I have not had the new tires on the freeway yet so don't know if they are in balance or not.

Also I had Discount Tire move the TPMS sensors to the new rims/tires. Are the stock valve stems rubber? These ones are. The ones on my old '13 4r were metal stems.

    Thanks in advance.

First of all...I really like the look and the choice here with the Baja Boss. On the weights, I don't think this is a mistake by DT. I have the same amount on my wheels (RWW) and this is what it takes to balance properly the tire. You are going to have to give it some time for the tire and wheel to get used to each other and see how they do. Don't lose patience if you have to go back to DT and get it rebalanced. Enjoy the ride. If you don't mind me asking, what you pay for the tires?

My 2023 came stock with rubber valve stems so I think that is normal.

Thanks. I paid 301$ + all the extras and i even sprung for the DT certificate, which will cover road hazard replacement at no cost.

Note, I had to remove the mud flaps on the front and trim a bit of the front fender to stop any rubbing. So far so good. Just trying to find a place that sells the center caps for these rims (came without them) Then I will be all set!

That looks fine to me, I have the "old" trd wheels in bronze and they put even more weight on mine, although I have heard the wildpeaks take more to balance. I think these big all-terrains just take a little more weight. But mine rides great so it must be right, right?

    PS also love the look

where are the red and yellow dots on the tires?

yellow dot should be near the valve stem. I have falkens 285/70/17 on stock rims and there barely any stick on weights on mine.

your lift will help clear mud flaps. If not heat gun them a little to flatten the bump on them.

Let us know how you like the Baja Boss ---- I'm deciding between those and Nitto for my next set, although it seems the Baja boss you have to order it why ahead of time and it is a bit more. Everybody seems to be very pleased. Let us know and post some pictures if you can on how they are clearing at full lock. Thank you!

Liking them ok so far. I had open country AT III on my previous 4r. they were quieter than the Baja Boss. I do like the looks of the Baja Boss. I live in snow country so the 3 peaks are important.

I'm fighting the balance weight battle with DT now, and have done it before. Currently I have Motegi wheels and Michelin tires, both highly rated and quite expensive. I watched them mount and balance all four in about 25 minutes, not taking the time to index the high and low weight points. Just like most places these days, the quality of service has dropped significantly.

it looks like a ton of weight but their onoy 1/4 oz weights. I dont know why shops dont use 1/2-1 oz weights to eliminate that.

Probably because its more universal and can be used on more vehicles/cars. May even allow for better distribution/balance. It is shocking to see so many.

Discount actually taped weights on top of other weights on my TJ. One wheel had 8 oz, the least had 4 oz, and it still shimmied. It took them all off and it drove better. They were compounding their errors. I logged a complaint on my latest 4R experience, so we will see what happens. If they had taken to extra 20 minutes to force match each wheel/tire, it would have saved them time and money in the long run. Now I am just going to be a dick about it until it is perfect.

Man I really wanted the bronze trd wheels when I bought my runner, actually being one of the criteria's when I was in the market. Then the massive waitlists happened, and after searching the entire nation for an ORP in AG without a sunroof was impossible. I didn't want to wait so I settled for an AG ORP with a sunroof with black wheels. Needless to say, I'm pretty jealous.

I really wanted blue with kdss. waited 7 months for one. I installed the bronze wheels after. love the look of em. These are the 40th-anniversary wheels. slightly different than the stock trd pro wheels.

yeah, just cant justify buying or powder coating just to have bronze when I'm still technically paying for the black ones that came on the truck and I still need to purchase a 5th wheel

Probably not, but if they took the time to turn the tire on the rim 90 degrees at a time, you can reduce the amount of weight a lot sometimes. That takes work though. The tires have red and yellow dots so you know the light and heavy spot of the tire. Yellow with valve stem. I think a lot of people just know how to get job done not good job

I have 3.5oz worth of 1/4oz weights on my 275/70/r17 Wildpeak AT3W. Tire and wheel weight about 1152oz, so that's 1/3rd of 1%. I recall reading the balance weights shouldn't go over 1% of total tire/wheel weight.

i dont know why shops dont use 1/2 oz weights to cut down on the amount of weights. Also indexing the dots help reduce weights.
