Picked up my '23 TRD ORP today... 17 miles on the odometer and $3k off MSRP. Dealership was exceptional with not trying to stick it to me with silly extras like window etching, so all in all, great experience for once!

Observations: At idle, it sounds like somethings rattling  maybe? Or am I just not used to a V6 engine/Toyota's 4.0l?? Ive been driving an '08 GM based SUV with a 5.3l v8 for 7 years. Its (I know this is hard to believe) been dead ass reliable and silent at idle.

The radio is meh. I turned up the bass 1 bar from midline (default setting) and it sounded trash, so I put it back.

Rides great on the highway on my 100 mile ride home from the Dealer - averaged 21mpg! Im coming from a Saab 9-7x with a slightly modified and tuned 5.3l v8 (350hp, 400tq) so the mpgs are impressive. I found road noise to be tolerable. The moonroof is nice and big.

Had Priuses for commuting since 2012, so I am familiar with Toyota's (lack of) technology. I know the multi terrain monitors are grainy resolution, but I still like 'em. I found the voice commands to be much improved over my '15 Prius. The Navigation is about the same, but you know what? I like it like that.

    First day score: 9.25/10 :D

How do you guys feel about the "PTF" (Paint Protection Film)? I have been calling local shops to get quotes. I feel like the front end being flat as it is might be prone to chips. :itllbuffout:

Congrats. I have a 23 ORP too. Not sure what the rattling noise it, but the air injection system is loud when it runs. The paint protection might not be a bad idea. I might get a bug deflector for road trips, but take it back off when I’m home.

Idle - Yes the engine is not quiet at all. If it's an interior rattle then check to see if something is touching the 4wd shifter.

Radio - You can say it...garbage.

PPF - I'd have a shop do it, not Toyota because it's cheap and it yellows quickly. Mine has it but I want to remove it.

Hahaha, it will take some time for you to get use to the 4Runner. You won’t really appreciate its true beauty til you get pass the first 12 years! LoL

All those things (rattle from engine, weak audio, and grainy display screen) sounds normal, except the 21 mpg. Wait til you get used to it and start to hammer on the skinny pedal.

Welcome! I think you’re going to love it…

I have xpel on mine and very happy with it. There is a noticeable difference for smaller chips for sure.

xpel has a precut kit specifically for the ORP

How much did you pay for the Xpel?? I called a shop yesterday and shooting off the hip, they told me $2,400 for the front end only :bananadead: That seemed insane to me.

I had mine put on in the Spring of 2022 and paid roughly $1,500 for the front bumper, hood and mirror caps. I see you are SE Michigan as am I.

I have had great luck with Motor City Auto Spa in Royal Oak what a fantastic group. I had them fluid film my frame also for rust prevention. They took great care to cover vehicle. If you want send me a PM happy to give more advice

That is interesting. I hate almost all dealerships I step into. The only ones I had good experience was with Subaru, even though we didn't end up buying one.

Loud yes. Rattle no. A new 4runner should not have a rattle. The engine is loud when it starts up -- one of its characteristic traits :) But shouldn't rattle.

I'd recommend it. Get the "most back for your buck" rather than everywhere. If you plan to replace front valance, and install heritage grill, tell them you don't want protection there. I did a front hood, side wells, door handles lights. Worth it in my opinion.

If you want quality PPF like Xpel then spend the money and get it done right the first time. I have my entire front done (hood, bumper, side panels, mirrors, lights, a pillars, strip along top). Their authorized installers that Xpel uses go through a ton of training in order to use their products.

I would highly recommend getting a paint correction done prior to any PPF installed unless you want to look at paint damage the entire time. Also, think about having a good ceramic coating after above is complete. If you can afford a 4runner than why not invest in the money to take care of it!!

Congrats on your new ride and welcome to the forum.

Because it is insane. I looked around just out of curiosity and they wanted around 6k for the whole car. o_O If you plan on off-roading in any capacity, you will get some form of wear and tear regardless.

While it may be worth it for some, I'll take my chips and scratches like a badge of honor. Id rather invest it in a quality suspension / tire set up.

There are many different PPFs on the market. You get what you pay for when it comes to Xpel and other top rated products. Their warranty if needed is some of the best on the market.

Rattle turned out was my GLOCK 43 in the steel console safe i ordered with my 2023 ORP. After a week i took out the GLOCK, turned it over and rattle gone for good.
Yep, took a week to find it.

I like this LOCKERDOWN I have in my 2023 TACO (being traded for ordered ‘23 LIMITED 4wd TACO better because of the lid electric lock (and heavier lid).

    https://www.lockerdown.com/

Pulled out to install in new ‘23 hopefully later this month.

The electronic lock is easer for me to open. May be because I’m 75 or some other reason, just easer.

I have used steel console safe for past 10 years in my 2014 Taco and never a problem.

I picked up my ORP 4 weeks ago and got the same discount off msrp without haggling at all. Mine had the running boards and cameras as well. (which I actually like - helps to park in the garage ) I have been thinking about a bug shield and or applying the film as well - pros and cons for both. I never put anything on my 08 Highlander and it suffered many chips to the hood over the 16 years I drove it - I just brush-touched them.

Nice! Do you happen to be in Michigan? Definitely getting the hood bug shield, maybe even the genuine Toyota one.. that, or the AVS brand. Same with the window visors; AVS makes a "low profile" set that I have on my Prius too, they are dead ass flat, and dont stick out at all, I love them. Im going to skip on the paint film - $2000/$3000 can go a long way that I'd rather spend on underbody rustproofing, I live in the salt belt.

Congrats on your new SR5P! Thats originally what drew me into 4Runners. I LOVE tan leather interiors, and you can get that on the SR5Ps. Also, you can opt for 3rd row seating. I dont know why that appealed to me, but it did. Lol. In my case, I was able to purchase a new TRD ORP w/some options you cannot get on the SR5 for only about $1000 more than an SR5P. Otherwise, I'd be rolling around with a tan leather interior and 3rd row seats right now :D

Nothing. I have used it every day too, because its been cooler here in Mi and I've needed the front defrost. Its been pretty quiet.

Before bringing it back in, you could always go behind the glovebox and pull out the cabin air filter - maybe theres plastic stuck to it, or it was installed incorrectly?

At apx 35 miles had Xpel PPF installed on the front clip and entire roof. The rest of the truck had paint correction and ceramic sealer. All windows tinted including windshield and sun roof. My first mod. The reason, it was the most money I have ever spent on a vehicle and seemed like front line insurance.

Crazy USD pricing on PPF. I had only the sides done with XPEL to protect from off-roading branches/bushes, and it was 2K Cdn.

So I would highly recommend ppf asap if you can afford it (or have the skill). The diesel-like note the engine makes is normal. Otherwise, congratulations

    Congratulations on the new Runner!

You're going to miss that 5.3L, but yes, a properly running 4.0L sounds slightly broken. For months I was convinced mine had internal issues, 80k miles later (160k on odo) it still sounds the same and runs perfectly, even consistently getting 20mpg.

The 4.0L has much more going on internally than the 5.3, it's got 4 cams, about 8 feet of timing chain, and all the associated guides and followers. (I absolutely LOVE the simplicity of the non-DOD LS engines).

Should be in the manual, no? I've never had a new vehicle, no idea about break in periods. I think taking it easy like you are makes sense though.

CONGRATS on the ORP 4R, great choice! I wouldn't be caught dead in a Prius :p
    Good advice
Also check the in the glove box, I've had interior buzzing and rattling noise from that.
    Interior/exterior rattle: here's multiple culprits

    Exterior engine/undercarriage rattle: Iunno, goodluck

I'm an old timer, so I have a lot of experience with dealerships. All of my experiences except one was like trying to survive a den of vipers. The one great experience was by a Hendrick owned Infiniti dealership. I'm not sure that he has anything to do with Infiniti anymore, but that was the best buying experience, followed by outstanding service afterwards. Infiniti of Pleasanton (CA) no longer exists, probably because of the decline in Nissan quality and reliability.

All of the rest of my stealership experiences involved a lot of thievery, bait and switch, good cop bad cop and outright fabrications and lies.

might want to consider a peddle commander unless you dont mind the gutless acceleration feel.

i’m new to 4r’s and was really turned off you the anemic acceleration unless my foot was on the floor but i was coming off a 5.4L f150 too which has really good acceleration off the line.

i still get 17.1 around town with it.
