    I struck gold yesterday!

    IMG_5911.jpg

Suerte Still Strength was a long time coming. There logo is a rabbit and 2023 is the Chinese year of the rabbit so they did a limiter production run of 1530 bottle of Still Strength blancos that was available for preorder directly through the distillery only. Suerte’s importer is based out of Boulder so unannounced they distributed a few hundred bottles around the Colorado
Front range despite it never being meant to hit shelves. I love high proof blancos and this is among the best there is.

Fortaleza Anejo is a is always a good find. Post covid pretty much all allocations of the Anejo in Colorado went to bars and restaurants. This is the first and only time I’ve ever seen it for sale in Colorado that wasn’t an allocated bottle that you had to win a store lottery to be allowed to purchase it.

G4 Extra Anejo is a bit of a unicorn at this point. It’s aged for 3 years so batches don’t come out often. It’s taken me a year to happen across a second bottle.

I am so jelly right now, but on the upside, our grounds keeper just got back from Mexico. So I showed him a picture of the Fortaleza, and he said next time he goes he will bring me a few bottles.

Sipping on disappointment. Super hyped and super disappointing. $200 Anejo that’s very hard to find. The worst “good” tequila I’ve ever had. Knew it was almost drinkable as a sipper. It’s been open about a year now and I’m revisiting it. It’s melo’d considerably, it’s not just strong rubbing alcohol taste anymore. Finally drinkable, but not great by any means.

    Noooooooo!!!

I saw pumpkin spice milk at Kwik Trip. I was curious, but I couldn't do it.

It's actually past the season at the "main" store in town. They usually sell out of all their pumpkin brews in late September. Luckily I know of a hole-in-the-wall store where the owner throttles his releases and I can find stuff there when everyone else is sold out. I found some Mad Elf there in April once and he let me in on his secret

Pumpkin spice is acceptable in October.

September is pushing it, but I'll allow it if it's the last week of the month.

Anything before that is a hard no and if you're trying to peddle it, I will shun you forever.

By the way, fuck you Costco for putting out Christmas decorations in September.

I have been trying to look at Tequila that does not have any additives. It seems like some of the higher priced ones have sweeteners and caramel added.

They had a Tequila tasting in Cozumel. There were I think five different blends of the same brand. It was the purest, no additives and no suger. No taxes either.;)
    I sniffed them!

Keep us posted on what you find. I consider you one of my Tequila consultants. I am thinking about picking up some nice Reposado for next weekend. I don't care about what the cool people are drinking. I just like good booze.

Yeah they are allowed to add up to 1% by volume without disclosing it. Between sweeteners, thickeners Most popular “high end” stuff is additive laden garbage - Don Julio, Clase Azule, Casa Dragones, Patron, etc. it’s all trash. Clase Azule Reposado is stupid expensive and its basically a pancake syrup liqueur.

Mijenta is widely thought to be additive free, but it hasn’t gone through the certification process. Their blanco and repo are very well regarded, that Anejo is just a miss.

Also CRT has started labeling blatantly not addictive free as additive free. Tequila match maker or bust.

I tried the Mijenta Blanco this past winter in Florida on the recommendation of the liquor store on Pine Island. I enjoyed it, but I'm hardly a conniseur.

For sure. And, they are legit dangerous if you don't pace yourself.

I usually make my own simple syrup, but I'm using the bottled stuff tonight. It's convenient, but I think the homemade stuff is better.

Check out tequilamatchmaker.com and looks for things additive free. Once you get deeper into tequila you tend to start looking for NOM numbers of the distillery that made it vs the branding of the bottle.

Anything distilled at 1123, 1493, 1579, 1120, 1139, and 1474 and going to be fantastic. 1146 is a safe bet as well, Cimmaron is the best bang for your buck mixer.

Pasote for example, they were NOM 1579 and are now 1584. The new stuff is good, the old stuff it great. You can still happen across 1579 Pasote bottles from time to time - I buy it every time I do.

Sober for 3 years 5 months now. Was HEAVILY into the craft beer scene back in the day. Was constantly at Treehouse, Other Half etc.

Some days I have the craving for a good ole' lager or pilsner. Refreshing AF!
