I can't make my 2011 Limited fold like this. The backs only fold down and you can slide the entire seat bottom forward or backward a bit. I have 3rd row. Making a sleeping platform-that's the reason for asking.

Mine looks like this when folded down.

2 row only. There's that nice hump from the fold point so you can't sleep back there unless you have the sliding tray or you have some sort of pad or platform.

This video shows how to fold the second and third rows down in a 4R with 3rd row seating, albeit in a 2021 Limited Nightshade. It seems to look very much the same as your 2011 Limited. 3rd row is discussed from 3:52 - 6:12.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2KkuSRxtSg

With both 2nd and 3rd row seats folded down:

From those pictures it looks like the overall height of the folded second row seat backs end at least 6 inches higher than on the models without 3rd row seating. The folded second and third rows also appear to be sloped upward. If I’m judging the pics correctly, it appears any platform will have to follow the general slope of the floor made by the folded seats. That will give you maximum headroom, but you’ll have to park nose down for a comfortable night’s sleep.

On the other hand, if you want a flat floor relative to the vehicle, it would have to be pretty thick from the point of view of the rear of the cargo area…which could be a positive in terms of storage under the platform. The negative would be limited head room if you want to sit up in the morning. I’M a big guy, and cant really sit up on my platform on a flat 2-row floor. So it might slotting yourself into bed, as opposed to crawling into it (depending on your size).

Seems workable either way, but a bit more complex compared to the standard 2-row 4runner.

Darn, was hoping mine folded more flat. Well, a full length platform it is.

Yeah, I need the headroom. I don't know how others get in and out with an elevated platform.

What I did with my Rav4-similar seat issues-is make the platform rest on the high point of the 2nd row, then use blocks to lift the tailgate end to level. That should leave me with 6-8" of storage under the back half while giving me the most headroom. I was able to slide plastic storage oranizers, rolled pads, etc underneath.

Yeah it doesn't fold flat - not sure why. But this is why I built a platform with storage underneath:

Thanks! The most fun part of the design in my platform was adding motion-activated LED lights that switch on when it's dark and the doors are opened.

I have a 2010 that looks like that with a 3rd row. My 2023 Limited with only 2 rows folds down nice and flat.

The seat bottoms fold upward towards the front seats? What trim level?

I think all of them. You just need to pull the little straps that stick out between the seat bottom and seat back. They might be hiding in the crack.

    @Rocko9999
I have a third row as well. The cargo area is flat with the third row down but the second row angles slightly up towards the front of the car. With an air mattress it is unnoticeable.
However, I did find that the head room was inadequate sleeping with my head towards the front, so I slept with my head towards the back window... much more room. But now you are angled at a decline. I have countered this by having small ramps, (think RV leveling blocks) to put the rear tires up higher, or park with the front end slightly down hill.

    Hope this helps.

EDIT: If you drink enough beer none of this will matter.

The seats fold the same regardless of trim, the only thing that changes is 2 vs 3 row.

2 row, seat bottom folds up, 3 row does not.

Yeah, they don't make them like that, I wish they folded up the same way. 3rd row only the seat back folds down.
I have found if you scoot the whole seat up to make a small 3-4 inch gap between the flat back area and the folded down 2nd row seat back that the change in angle is slightly less noticeable, but like I said above, you can't notice it once you have an air mattress in there, if that's the route you choose. Works well for me and the wife, or me and my son if it's just the two of us.

It will in the morning!!! :p At least for me. i’m the guy that is driving back and forth in the same area with a bubble level looking for the perfect spot, because otherwise I’ll be so bent up the next day I can only walk in circles haha

    It does look pretty epic.

His tools have probably figured a way to turn those lights on and have a party in there while he's not looking.

Haha - I expect you are right about that! The LEDs use a USB rechargeable battery pack, which I charged prior to the initial install in July, and the lights are still going strong.

Huh, apparently I misread the three-row diagram. Yet another reason for me to prefer two rows.
