I want to add front recovery points and don't think have seen anyone running Apex and Elka remote reservoir. Looks like the Apex would would conflict with the Elka bracket. Anyone with experience or best guess if only Apex experience?

I don't have KDSS so was hoping for easy no drill install other than the Elka bracket.1984482695.png 20231012_085821.jpg

I don't have them but they state 4 bolts.

    • A single mount bolt with this recovery point has the sheer strength of just over 20,000 lbs. This recovery point is secured by 4 bolts in total. AKA, super strong and rated for more than most recovery straps and ropes.

As noted above, it uses four bolts. The biggest is the obvious one. The other two big ones go through the sway bar bushing mounts and there's a smaller one visible at the top. The three main ones are big, heavy bolts. When mounted and torqued correctly, it's absolutely solid and should easily withstand major off-center loads.

You’re going to have overlap it would appear.

I would check in with Apex and see if they have some advice.

It kind of looks like the resi would be in contact with the recovery bracket. If so, is it possible to change out the elbow fitting on the resi to straight and slide the resi up the bracket?

Thanks for the help guys. Love having expert owners to tap into. Feedback from Apex

They are compatible with the swaybar drop kit that you have. You will just sandwich the recovery point in between the frame and the swaybar drop block.

The swaybar is the worst part of the install.

    Everything else is easy peasy.

Think I read it's easiest to unbolt both sides of swaybar dropping it supported with floorjack.

It certainly beats unbolting both sides and then trying to lift and bolt yourself whilst trying not to teach your 11 year old son some new vocabulary words.

I am getting good at learning how to support with floor jack and blocks needing to remove skids to do maintenance. Fun stuff wrestling with heavy items trying to support while getting bolts started.

I appreciate the extra couple inches of lift every time I am under truck.

My latest trick for the skid is to lay twisted on my side and control its height with my shoulder while I start the bolts. It was faster than messing with the jack and blocks but requires an extra laundry step. However, I agree that using a jack on the sway bar is best approach for installing the Apex Overland hardware.

a reservoir bracket can be modified or a new one fabricated to accommodate the recovery point. it likely would be a custom one off deal unless demand is really that high and someone decides to mass produce something.

Any suggestions on painting black or powder coating? I don't think this would affect anything other than appearance. I would prefer to not have the red. I am in a no rust state if that changes anything.

Seems like a lot of effort and expense.

In a low visibility situation, the red is pretty nice.

The red is powdercoat, and fairly durable. I'd just hit it with a few coats of spray paint of your choice, just make sure you spend the time to prep it right.

As for the install, if I remember correctly I left one side of the sway bar supported by the mostly loosened bolts while I worked on the opposing side. The biggest tip I have is to not tighten any of the bolts until you have them all in, the fit is tight and I had to shift it around a bit to get everything lined up to get all the bolts in.
