I think one thing that needs to enter the conversation is just how much one puts a priority on off-road performance.

There are times where I do wonder whether it’d be worth it to run all seasons and just swap over to mid terrains for off road excursions, but man is that more work than I want to do.

That's good to hear. I had a 50/50 choice between KO2s and Wildpeaks going in my head and went with the known quantity for me. Safe driving! Winter is coming up quickly!

I bought another set of trail wheels for that purpose, but I haven't pulled the cord on that yet. Tires are kinda spendy and if I were to do it, it would likely be to have a winter set than a set of MTs. But then again, I haven't run into any winter scenarios where my ATs haven't done the job (yet). So for now I carry on. :)

Having run Super Swampers back in the day, and 30.5” ones at that with a really mild lift on an XJ, tread pattern can really up your game.

i agree, too much work if you’re not doing a lot off roading.

This is why I have two sets of wheels and tires. I have been swapping back and forth in the spring and fall. But, next year I think I am going to leave the all-terrains on all year and then just throw the MT's on The weekend before trips, and swap back the weekend after.

If you have a decent impact, it doesn't take very long to swap. I think I could get it done in 10 or 15 minutes if I wasn't screwing around. I jack the front under the skid plate and then put it on jack stands, then I just throw the jack under the rear diff and swap all the tires.

I currently run Toyo AT3s (C load) on one set, and Yokohama geolander MT's (E) on the other. I'm planning on going with an SL for the daily tires next time around.

It would be less work if you were not doing a lot of off-roading, as opposed to doing a lot of off-roading, lol. :D

While I generally agree with you the original post was talking KO2. That’s why the conversation circled around your general all terrain tire options. Me personally I don’t do any serious off road except to get into or out of hunting/fishing/ biking spots and the Wildpeak is perfect for that including every day wet and snowy weather.

true, i just like the fact that i can tackle any weather situation or trail if i decide to go offroad without having to plan a tire swap.

For those purposes, I wouldn’t have to think very long before pulling the trigger on those.

Yeah, that's convenient. My current "winter" tires are Toyo AT3's, so they're more than sufficient for basic off-roading. Even if I switch to an SL tire, I'll be fine for any impromptu exploring.

The Yokohamas are pretty well mannered for an MT, but I wouldn't run MT's in the winter if someone paid me to.

How much $$$ we talkin' here? I'll wear one of those inflatable sumo costumes for added protection if the price is right.

I switched to BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport LT as Toyota 4Runner tire choises a few years ago and I love them. They're a great all-around tire that performs well on both on-road and off-road terrain. I've had a few flats over the years, but nothing like what you're experiencing.

The swap would be so much easier if the lugnuts weren't such a pain in the dick. I've never owned a vehicle with such finicky lugnuts, and I thought the lug BOLTS on my Volvo were bad.

I bet more than a few steering wheel shake cases are because someone just zapped down the lugs without making sure they were all on & centered first.

Also, good call on SL the next time around. I've had great luck with SL with mild off-roading.
