    Hey fellas,

New to this website. I've got a 2001 Toyota 4Runner, 3.4L V6 w/factory Supercharger. According to my yota mechanic I need a new Throttle Body Assemble (and I assume the Throttle Position Sensor). As mentioned, my engine has a supercharger on it. Not sure if that requires a different throttle body assembly bc of the supercharger, or if a factory throttle body would work?
Anyway, having trouble locating a throttle body as I've been told they've been discontinued. Open to any recommendations or suggestions as to where I might be able to locate a throttle body. Thanks in advance.

Whoever told you they are not available...I think doesn't know how to look up the proper part.

Where are you looking? They can be had from the dealer or from Partsgeek.

They are a 2001-2002 part for 4Runners...also some Tacomas and Tundras in other years.

    https://toyotaparts.ourismantoyotao...oyota-fuel-injection-throttle-body-2203062020

I know this says Tundra only but the online databases are just wrong. I literally bought this same one and have the invoice for it and checked the part number and it's on my rig working perfectly for a few years now.

Call your dealer (or McGeorge) with your VIN and they should be able to give you the exact part number.

Also, pretty sure there was no factory super charger. However, some dealers popped them on right when they got off the boat. The TB should be no different.

Thank you, Negusm. I'm sorry - who's McGeorge?

I'm going to call the dealer and try to get the part number. I 'think' it's a TRD supercharger. It may have not been factory.

McGeorge Toyota Online parts. Looks like they were bought out or renamed. Their new link: toyotaparts.ourismantoyotaofrichmond.com

I think that was first year eith electronic pedal. You have to have correct year transmission to.

Called the parts dept at dealership where my mechanic is located. Got the factory part no#s based off my VIN no#. Asking my mechanic if these parts will work on my truck - despite the supercharger. Waiting for his response. He keeps telling me I don't have a standard throttle body assembly.

On the supercharger....here is a vid of an install for a TRD supercharger on a 4 pin TPS TB on either a 2001 or 2002 4Runner:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RmHXvEQwXs

He just removes the intake plenum and replaces it with the Supercharger and reuses the old TB. So unless you prove it with some pics, I'm going to say your TOYOTA guy really doesn't know what he's talking about. You will have the standard TB for 2001 or 2002.

    Why? Who suggested that?

If your engine is making good compression, there is literally no reason. You'll just be taking a bigger risk.

Negusm. Okay just got my 4runner back from the shop. Taking it home after work and will begin taking apart the TB. Will ping you as soon as I start digging into it.

If the number on your TB matches what I have told you, I would just buy a whole new unit, slap it on with new gaskets and be done. That's what I did and a lot of issues went completely away with idling, surging, acceleration, etc.

Also...what is the issue you are having? You said you needed a new TB but didn't actually say what is wrong.

Pics of throttle body, TRD supercharger, connection of the the two.
Engine is stalling off and on the highway; engine stalls despite gas pedal to the floor. Engine cutting out at lower speeds on side roads - jerking back and forth as it accelerates with gas pedal to the floor, then it stalls out again, off and on. Mechanic hooked up said codes reported throttle body and Throttle position sensor.

    Post the codes.

What's the number on the top of the TB?

    TB no#s are 62020 - OJ16 or 0J16(zero - 0J16) - IMG_1250.png Can't tell if it's the letter O or the number zero.

Those other numbers are a date code. But you have what looks like the same TB as on my car.

Now in regards to your driveability problems... Looking at your engine bay, this car has been neglected. You are probably looking at TB issues, a dirty maf, cracked vacuum hoses, bad ignition wires, worn plugs.

You need a code reader to get proper codes to point you to the right direction but nothing here is that bad overall. A new TB would be the most expensive thing.

A new engine won't solve any of the above.

I'm following along to learn. Although I would have overlooked those things, your observation made me look closer. I see hints of what you say, but I'm not clear on how to prevent such degradation eventually happening to me. Is there a way to decipher the maintenance schedule that would shed light on these items?

Two questions: 1. MAF - Mass airflow sensor, correct? 2. What brand of code reader do you recommend and where do you recommend buying it?

Now the Toyota dealership is telling me I can't buy the Throttle Position Sensor without buying the entire throttle body. I don't believe that Negusm. your thoughts?

Yes, TOYOTA does not just sell the TPS. Toyota ONLY sells the entire TB.

Partsgeek now does (the AISIN one is the best and an OEM supplier for TOYOTA):
    https://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/2002/toyota/4runner/fuel_injection/throttle_position_sensor.html

For me, it was worth getting the full TB because you not only get the TPS but you also get the Pedal Position Sensor which I have not seen available separately yet.

Plus I didn't have to adjust anything since everything on the new TB was already set by TOYOTA.
