New to the forum and 4Runners. We just got a 23 4Runner limited for my wife after she drove an 11 RAV4 since new. Love the vehicle and it is a huge upgrade from her old suv.

question about a steering angle alert that I cannot find any information on. When going through a drive thru, parking on grass / sand or even pulling off the side of the road with one side not on pavement, there is a constant beep and information center alert for “steering angle”. There is no way to dismiss the audio part of the alert even thought the back button on the steering wheel dismisses the display. The entire time in drive with the vehicle stopped or inching forward / backward and the wheel is not straight the truck beeps which is incredibly annoying in a drive thru or when parking. Only way to get it to stop is shifting to park and it comes back on when you shift to drive to pull up again. Does anyone know if this is how it is supposed to work and more importantly how to deactivate this feature?

    Thanks in advance.

I wonder if that's your parking sensors going off from your front or rear bumpers. I have to turn off my parking assist when I go through drive throughs.

I think you may be correct. I didn’t notice the parking sensor symbol on the dash before. I’ll try to post a video later

I don’t have parking assist on my ORP. But steering angle is displayed in the vertical menu associated with tire pressure digital readout. Steering angle is an input to the vehicle stability control (VSC) so that the wheel speed sensors can account for the correct wheel speed difference expected if NOT skidding. If in a skid, the ABS can intervene to regain control. If you display the steering angle and rotate the steering wheel, you can see the 2 wheels (in the display) turn left and right. I would test mine, if I were you, to see if they display the proper orientation when turning steering wheel. If it does, it may be what mley1 said. mley1, if you don’t turn your off your parking assist in a drive-thru, do you get the same “steering angle” alert? Wardens Wagen, If yours doesn’t test out correctly (displaying the proper wheel angle) you may have a bad sensor?

23 Limited driver here. I believe it is the parking sensors indicating to you that if you continue in the direction you are going that there is something there and that you will eventually hit that something if you don’t change direction. In a drive thru you will be continually turning tight and, yes, it’s going to go off, but if you stay in your lane, it should stop once you’ve cleared the “obstacle” the sensor thinks you are heading for. I get this from time to time in both drive and reverse when navigating my driveway and I just check to make sure I’m not too close. If you are worried about it, definitely have the service department check it. But it does sound like the sensors are doing their job sensing.

Thank you all for the help. Ended up figuring out that it was the parking sensors causing the beep even though the alert shows “steering angle”. The chime changes when the wheel is turned towards the obstruction being detected and does not chime at all when the parking sensors are turned off. Thanks again
