What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

@backpacker ground zero for most expensive petrol in North America, is my region - Greater Vancouver Area. If that plastic cracks losing the top tier gas would be a sweet cherry on top

 

I just contradicted my points, a plastic water can is obviously more likely than metal to get destroyed crashing off the road, or during a big earthquake. It's cheaper, okay.

 

Cartrimhome, but I refuse to believe that multiple entities have created the tooling to make them. Amazon or AliExpress should be equivalent.

They aren't knock-offs, they're stick-ons. Not bad quality but they add thickness (particularly noticable at the bottom of the wheel) and there's slivers of silver visible here and there.

Adding covers to stuff that's already black may hide the slivers in some spots, like the coin tray/front cupholder and window buttons.

I'd have left the gloss black be, but I irrationally hate the silver plastic. Don't even mind the chrome door handles.

 

Wow, this LED light kit really makes the interior, license plate area and door lights reaaaaaaaaally brighten up!

If you’re doing puddle lights, get bulbs that are totally enclosed like Sylvania zevo or Philips. Water can/does get back behind the mirrors, especially car washes.

 

In guitar amps, adding 3dB is the equivalent of jumping from 50 Watts to 100 Watts. Noticeable but not a screaming difference.

Not sure if failure due to engine heat is correct or not. I guess possible. But the compressor itself gets pretty hot when operating even when placed on the ground. Before this one I had a Slime compressor (https://slime.com/collections/pro-power-tire-inflators/products/elite-heavy-duty-tire-inflator-gen-2) I purchased at Walmart for ~$100 and it traveled in the same corner in the engine compartment for over 3 years before the hose coming out of the compressor melted after touching the hot compressor. Thus, the compressor did not fail but the hose, in part because I did not notice the hose touching the compressor while using it. Not sure of this Morrflate, but the Slime had a temperature timeout when it got too hot during use. Nonetheless, I have a 6-month trip heading out of Arizona ~Apr-Oct 2024 so might have to wait until summer 2025 before finding out if the excess engine heat in Arizona's summer might undermine the compressor. If I get two years out of the compress in the engine compartment that's a fair price for me as it already saved me half the cost of an ARB that fits under the seat, for example. That said, even leaving it inside the vehicle in the Arizona summer could fail due to heat, as the inside temperature of a vehicle in Arizona's summer could reach ~150-200F from just sitting in the parking lot. I understand that's nowhere near engine heat but still hot from just sitting in the parking lot.

I did have an ARB twin compressor in another vehicle's aluminum bumper and it constantly failed, mostly mice eating the wires but nonetheless, that's a failure too.

As to Morrflate's hose, I use this product I got on Amazon for a fraction of the price (

The hose I used with the Slime compressor (not the compressor hose part that failed but an additional hose) is of the same material as this Amazon-purchased hose but as a single hose and it still works fine despite being stowed in the engine compartment as well for over 3 years (and 75k miles).

 

Dude! I just ordered those exact center caps and wheels! So they don't fit??? I'm going to be so bummed when they arrive on Tuesday

 

What wheels did you buy? Mine were the factory style wheels.

Yours might fit if different brand but mine did not. 40th anniversary were much smaller than the center caps that came with the wheels.

TBH, it was a pretty easy fix to take apart the 40th caps and use the parts.

There’s another set of bronze trd wheels with the red trd center cap that’s another part number…I think that’s weird.

I had the windows tinted even darker. The guy was a mobile tinter (he did great work at an excellent price, so if anyone in the Fort Worth area needs a recommendation, reach out). He said the tint from the dealership was 20% and he could put 5% on top of it on all the windows. It saved him a lot of time (and me money) by not removing the old tint. Yup, I'm rolling illegal as hell. But I don't care.

All the cars I've had over the last 15 years have had 5% all the way around. So spare me your lectures about the law or safety. In Texas, I need max protection from the sun. Oh, and I got the SloRunna washed/detailed:
