Have stock suspension 2015 SR5, and bought Black Rhino "Solid" wheels at:
    • 17"x9.5"
    • -12mm offset
    • Back Spacing: 4.78"
    • Center Bore: 112.1mm
Does anyone know the best/optimal tire size?

I'm planning on using bfg trail terrain a/t.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Oooh look, another mod.....

What's best for me may not be best for you. So the recommendations you get will vary pretty wildly. (queue the "Buy 40 inch tires!" guy...)

Best is a tough topic. Really depends what you are trying to achieve. Are you trying to maintain on road performance or want to upsize to 275/285 for looks?

You can't ever go wrong staying stock with 265. Other sizes may require some work to make them fit. Upsizing tires also has an impact on performance depending on how you use truck. Some options to counter this are re gear, supercharger or tune.

Also think about a matching spare if you change sizes. Not recommended to use a spare different size.

That's a pretty wide wheel. That's going to limit your choices. I don't think anything narrower than a 275 is probably going to fit properly. Also, with a negative 12 offset, you are definitely going to have to do some trimming, even with stock size tires, which are probably too narrow for those wheels.

If possible, I would consider exchanging those wheels for something with a zero offset, or small positive offset, and also something narrower than 9 inches. That is, unless you are planning on running big tires and okay with a lot of trimming.

    Exactly.

I too think even the 265/70R17 would have problems on a -12 offset 9.5 wide wheel.
On the other side, I think the 9.5 width too much even for a 285/70R17 tire?

I could be wrong, just putting these points to check by the OP with a tire shop or any advice from the senior members.

I agree with the others. Those wheels are not what you want.

Too wide and to heavy. If you want the "solid" wheel look getting fj steel wheels. Or look at the following brand. Rrw, scs, fn, ssw.

This is more of a best tire for your needs situation. Are you interested in doing any sort of modification to the vehicle so larger tires to fit?

Almost any tire you put on those wide wheels with all that negative offset will potentially rub a bit.
