PSA: TRD Pro tires don't fit on Limited

I checked the spare and it was around 34psi. The rest are 33psi cold. Since these are different wheels , does something need to be reset for this the light to go off? Just wondering what other had done when changing from 20" wheels to 17". Thanks.

 

I still have my 20-in wheels, but from my own experience is why I suggested checking the spare. Since it's intermittent, makes me wonder if all the sensors on the new 17s were installed correctly. Hopefully, someone who made the swap can chime in as well.

 

Bumping this thread. I have a 2023 Limited and just bought a set of these wheels (which I believe are the TRD Off Road, but not the pros?)



I haven't installed them yet, but assuming I'm going to get the rubbing issues, could I size down to a 255 or a 245 tire width and that might avoid the rubbing? I bought these wheels so I could order some dedicated winter tires. I haven't ordered them yet so I could order a narrower size if that might help. I would like to avoid having to use a heat gun and mallet as I'll definitely bugger something up.

Good morning. Those are the off road premium wheels. They are 7.5” wide. I’m not aware that the geometry of the 23 is any different than that of my 18 in the photo. The rub was so minor using the 265 and it was only in reverse wheels fully cocked. I used a heat gun on the liner and a rubber mallet to push it in a hair. Took 10 minutes. I wouldn’t be afraid of the 265’s as it’s so minor. I also like the way they sit on the vehicle as well. Good luck.

Except that what you calculated is the change in the location of the face of the wheel...but since the tire width is essentially the same on a 7" wheel as a 7.5" wheel and the tire is centered on the wheel, the tire location was not part of that equation. Offset is based on the center of the wheel width so changing from say a TRD OR wheel (7.5" wide, +15mm offset) to a TRD Pro wheel (7" wide, +4mm offset) results in a change in tire location of 11mm (because the tire is centered on the wheel) even though the face of the wheel only pushes out about 5mm.

 

I’m looking to put stock size tires on some aftermarket wheels that are 17in 8.5in wide with a +15 offset. Any insight about whether this would rub? Thanks all!

I already have them and was hoping to re-use them if possible. They are a set I picked up off of Facebook Marketplace for a good price, they came with some snow tires that I used on a different wheel a couple of years ago. They are black American Racing wheels which I’d probably prefer the black look over the SR5 wheels. What would downsides (other than weight) of a 1 inch wider wheel? Same offset as stock (+15).

 

Check online for a wheel/backspace/offset calculator. Some will show you visually and all give you the data. Here’s one but there are so many online.

 

If the wheels and tires don't fit then make them fit

Wheel fitment isn't exactly rocket science. Common sense would tell me to just trim the area that the tire is rubbing on especially if OEM size. Coming from slammed cars fitting wheels on trucks seem hell of a lot easier than cars that have barely any ground clearance.

I'm looking to do this on a limited; is there any chance of voiding the warranty if I do this to push the fender out a hair? Seems like it would be difficult to even detect.

I haven't bought yet so I'm going to see if I can get the dealer to do it, but if not I'll probably have to do it myself. But if it's going to cause me warranty problems I'll just tough it out with the 20s.

 

You are pushing a liner forward less than an inch. Not sure anyone would notice and it can't void any warranties.

I doubt anyone would even know you pushed the fender liner out at all. You couldn’t tell on mine. Heat it on a low setting using a heat gun moving around while pushing with something. I used a rubber mallet. It really is pretty easy.

 

They didn't use wrong offset wheel did they? Recently learned lesson. Tacoma and Tundra have different offset than 4runner. A Tacoma and Tundra wheel have offset more to inside. +4 4runner, +14 Tacoma and +60 Tundra I believe. Same size tires except for width which is probably rubbing but look on back of your wheel. Offset number is molded into backside of wheel. Might check that.

 

By looking at the bumper of my 2023 ORP, I can tell that this procedure was done. I also looked at many other 4Runners at the dealer lot when I was inspecting my car before purchase, and was glad to see that my bumper wasn’t the only one that was cut like that.

Kind of silly that Toyota didn’t just modify the parts at the factory / supplier level at this point.

However, this is an ORP bumper which is very different than a limited bumper. The limited bumper is longer / lower and doesn’t expose the wheels like the other bumpers do, so I don’t even know if this is a procedure you can even do on a limited without a full bumper swap.
