First fake TRD Pro I have seen in the wild

    This seems like a realistic expectation.

    Some folks seem to think they're all going to grenade the second the warranty expires, which I think is ridiculous.

    I'm hoping they'll be pretty solid, but understand that a turbo rebuild might be necessary after enough miles. And, it seems like turbo engines are more sensitive to lack of maintenance.

    Just don't click on it. ;)

    For sure. Honestly, any car can last forever with an unlimited maintenance/rebuild budget lol.

    But besides expected wear, direct injected turbo engines require a higher degree of care to maintain long term. You can get away somewhat neglecting maintenance on an NA Toyota truck (like most buyers do), not so much on one with a turbo/hybrid system.

    How many non-enthusiast Toyota customers who are used to headache-free ownership will continue to do synthetic oil changes every 5K miles, pump premium gas, properly warm up the engine before thrashing it to work, happily replace expensive turbos/battery packs, etc for 10+ years?

    Just betting junkyards will see way more 2023 Tundras/Sequoias before they see 2023 4Runners in the next 15 years.

    Time will tell regarding the exact number per 1000 vehicles. I judge on reference and my reference is vehicles with proven longevity, like the 5th gen. “Not as shitty as expected” means nothing to me.

    I can safely bet the percentage will be higher than 2023 4Runners…..and higher than equivalent 3rd gens when they hit the 10 year mark.

    Just ask techs who have worked on both platforms from launch year on. Never heard many engine issues with the 5th gen even from the first model year, same can’t be said about the new Tundra already.

    Too many mods and too much money
    8 to 10 years or 150k mile average service for a hybrid battery? Is that the general consensus? Not withstanding newer battery tech, the drawback of all this would be a 12 year old mint condition example w say 60k miles on the clock needing a battery replaced. That would suck, but you would hope the tech gets better and replacements will get cheaper over time.
    I would say if any automaker has a chance of getting more than 10 years, it's Toyota, but things are changing quick these days.

    The other consideration is emergency repairs on critical parts in the new E tech world. Some of these parts might not be available at just any parts store. A lot of them aren't now. I had an aftermarket high amp alternator go bad, couldn't find a parts store or dealer that had an oem replacement in that area. Had my buddy bring me the original factory one from 3 hrs away.

    LMFAO, and this is the sole reason I've got a TRD Pro badge on my lift gate and a TRD Pro applique on my "fake" scoop (like everyones fake scoops.) I love doing that because for some reason fanboys like to get their knickers in a twist over this.

    I make the payments, I installed the suspension, rock sliders, supercharger and everything else including mismatched badges because it's mine and that's what I wanted to do.

    If it bothers anyone that I put some Pro stuff on it......bonus level unlocked lololol.

    I don't doubt the percentage will be higher than a 5th gen, but that still doesn't mean they will be broke down all the time or in the junkyard after 10 years.

    Plenty of Prius' are lasting 20 years and most go past 150,000 without needing a thing. Same battery that's planned in the iForce Max (NiMH). The main difference being the 2.4T. Although it's a relatively new motor, it's currently being run in quite a few Toyota models so they have a lot of confidence in it. It's been in the NX since 2021 and has a great track record so far.

    Caredge.com rates the 5th gen as having a 16% chance of a major repair in the first 10 years of ownership. Obviously it's a bit early to know on the NX 2.4T, but they estimate it at a 20% chance for major repair in the first 10 years. I'd say that assessment is pretty fair and still very reliable.

    Ya, being honest, it’s not solely on the product just being catastrophically awful. It’s also the expectation that the non-car guy owner, who went from a V8 Tundra that needed just oil changes and brakes to get to an easy 250K, won’t take the extra steps needed to properly run/maintain a twin turbo direct injection engine that long.

    Not a unique knock on Toyota, as the competition is going to be equally or more disposable long term too imo. Just a symptom of the times.

    I agree! I hope the 2.4T is easy enough to maintain. But, I can't imagine hybrids being very simple to repair.

    It's sad how we've become a society of throw-away products. I really hate to think that vehicles are going down this path like everything else, but I could see it happening.

    The older I get, the more I can appreciate buying nice things and keeping them rather than buying cheap shit and replacing it.

    Think of all the folks out there now driving the cheapest used cars on the market. Millions of them. If we go all electric, hate to say it, but 10 years after roll out, they’re not gonna be driving anything at all. For the reasons laid out here. Just a hunch. The days of buying a beater, a trip to Autozone, wrenching a bit, and getting back on the road will be over.

    what additional maintenance is required for turbos? Most folks know what to do because dealership service dept or their mechanic tells them.
