I'm new to the 4Runner world. I drove a LR Disco for years (and before the jokes start it never left me stranded!) and had my spares list pretty dialed in.

For my Runner I'm carrying a front axle/CV, a rear axle and a serpentine belt. Are there any weird electrical components I should bring along or any other parts I should toss in my drawers?

I’m gonna go out on a limb here, and suggest you ask your significant other if you need any other equipment in your drawers. I mean it’s pretty subjective if you get my drift.:anonymous:

If I could pay to upgrade that equipment, I definitely would.

I carry a serpentine belt, nothing else in terms of parts. I had enough trouble replacing a front axle in my garage. I can’t imagine doing it on a trail.

All I get is this little box?!
Outer tie rods are the main weak point off road on these rigs, along with CV’s which you already covered.

I drive a 5th gen, I keep a spare inner and outer tie rod in my kit. They're cheap enough and take up hardly any space in my gear bag. After seeing a YouTube video where a 4R had to be left on the trail due to a bent outer tie rod, I figured it was cheap insurance.

How about a good tire repair/plugging kit and a compressor. Multiple options to choose from.

I was on the same boat. came from an LR5... opposite to your experience. My LR5 was a nightmare. so glad I traded for the 4runner. Your spare list sounds about right. pretty straight forward. not much to worry about on these vehicles besides what you had there as a precaution.

You carry a rear axle shaft for the 4Runner? That isn't a field-replaceable item unless you got a corner assy complete with wheel bearing and brake backing plate preassembled. Rear axle shaft doesn't fail often off road on Toyotas.

Serpentine belt, front and rear brake hoses, inner tie rod and boot, general wiring repair kit (fuses, crimp connectors, wires, heat shrink, loom), rear ABS wire (can be cut down and spliced into any corner), headlight bulb if halogen, wiper blades, spare engine air filter if you don't have a snorkel, spare hoses of various sizes seen under the hood.
