    Oooh look, another mod.....
Well, I'm not a 4Runner owner, yet. But I'm in the negotiation part of buying one from a local dealership here in the DFW area. It's a 23' 4Runner SR5 Premium....but (please don't roast me for this)...2 wheel drive. I was going to get a 4wheel drive, but I had that with my Taco and never did any hard wheeling that made me need it. This will probably be a pavement princess/mall crawler.

I previously had a 21' Tacoma and the bug to mod every freakin' thing on it bit me really early. I think that bug may bite me again! The 4Runner already has a few mods installed by the dealership (the cargo basket is getting removed immediately though).

So any thoughts or recommendations on mods/add on's to get would be helpful. The dealership already slapped a few mods on that I like, and one that I don't.

Here are a few pictures of it:

I just don't understand buying a 4runner for mall crawling. It's one of the worst options.

Nothing wrong with a 2wd. My ex had a 2wd Tahoe, and it was great for camping trips! Enjoy your 4Runner!

Your post would be more compelling if you listed a couple choices and addressed their drawbacks :p

and welcome op. I have a 2wd too and personally, I have gotten stuck :tumbleweed:

There's really no need to list choices. My needs & wants are different from someone else's needs & wants. As I stated in my original post, I had a 4wheel drive Tacoma for 2 1/2 yrs, and never used 4wheel drive, except when I would throw into 4hi every 6 months like the manual suggested I do.

I never did any hard wheeling and 95% of the time my vehicle will be used for commuting to and from work, plus running errands. So yeah, a 2Runner is just fine by me! :)

Totally.... Well, some may call them mods, others will say "Those are add ons buddy!".

The rig already has the following: LED light kit, console safe, emblem black out package w/upgraded wheels & tires, roof rails & roof basket (but I'm telling them to get rid of that and to deduct the cost of it from the sale price.

Now, my immediate mods/add ons are:

    1) Storage draws for the front console.
    2) Interior black out for the steering wheel emblem & door handles.
    3) Weather tech floor liners for front and rear.
    4) "Trunk mat backseat cover", that's how Amazon describes it.
    5) Glove box organizer.
    6) AJT Push button start - in Red (I only want it so I can get rid of the chrome ring.)
    7) Black leather shift knob.
    8) Lamin-X Fog light covers - Yellow.
    9) KTJO drivers side handle.
    10) Screen ProTech kit.
    11) Re-doing the window tint. I've had limo tint on all my vehicles and plan to black out all the windows.
    12) I'll re-install the Garmin Mini Dash cam that came out of my Tacoma and mount it in the 2Runner.

I'm toying with the idea of a stealth/low profile steel bumper or maybe, just maybe a full steel bumper. Oh, and maybe upgrade the sound system so I can have great sound quality while I'm sitting in rush hour traffic.

Right on dude. I'd prioritize the sound system is the only feedback I have. It's so nice to have good sound and you listen to it when ever you're in the car. Makes a tremendous difference.

Most 4 wheel drives out there don't even get used so I wouldn't worry about that.

@2016Pro I see what you mean. Something like a Highlander is a very nice car and very livable. But have you ever been aft of the B pillar inside one, have you loaded people or cargo back there? How did that go?

Are you suggesting that people buy bigger vehicles @2016Pro ? Because lotsa cars are at least longer than the 4runner.

Honestly curious about the highlander (and sienna) with the bench down / captain's moved. I don't want one, I'm surprised the interior utility seems so low there. I also like miscellaneous posting:bucket:

Basically if you don't need an off road vehicle go with something else.

The world would be more efficient if people drove 4runners on road instead of cars. We'd use about the same amount of gas, but get more done with fewer vehicles.

I can fairly say I am good with my 2wd. owned it 8 years and as long as I'm not rock crawling I'm good. I am on 35s with 4.88 regear with rear Lockers. Love my rig and will never sale. Don't doubt your 2wd. Get an SAS system and you will be solid, big investment but worth it. People will ask why not get a 4x4 anyway, well you will get more travel with an SAS system. Your purchased is based on your lifestyle not others. ;)

The blue 4runner on your IG is 2wd? Which is purchased based on your lifestyle? But you clearly hold a lot of value in building an overlanding looking vehicle....but don't go off road?....so that's not your lifestyle?

You've clearly spent some coin on the vehicle. But didn't want 4wd? What's the difference?

Can you define off-road? Cause I purchased my vehicle to go camp, not rock crawl. It does the job for me and your more than welcome to join us camping in big bear this weekend since you think this doesn't hit dirt. Yea, I get stuck every now and then, but that's why there's a winch on my front bumper. I guess you have a different understanding of off-road if you think this sits on pavement 24/7. But like I said, love my rig and does what I need it to do. I do not need to post dirt pics just to show you I use it LOL.
