You got bamboozled by the hype. Toyota reliability isn't all that great and the build quality is average at best.

Not sure about that when it comes to the 4runner but it is vastly outdated and not a very good street vehicle.

I'm starting to think so. Was reading on various forums how bullet proof and great they are but now not so convinced. Had it for over a year now and all these issues showing up. Granted fixed under warrant but damn...

It's a mass produced vehicle, it will have issues like they all do. Some have more issues than others.

    Interesting..
I thought things like ventilated & heated seats, 360 camera, blind spot monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, radar cruise control, automatic braking, lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, automatic head lights, automatic high beams, JBL sound, Android auto & Car play, automatic running boards, App supported remote start, remote lock /unlock, remote hazards, checking things like tire pressure, door status, window status on phone, etc.... are not that out dated.

As a street vehicle I love it can be used as a don't care vehicle, good payload capacity 1151lbs (1165-14) with 7 seats which help to move stuff for Mrs business vs using my TRD, probably the best for Winter from what I have used in winter conditions (vs multiple Toyota AWD, Subaru Ascent, BMW X5, etc..). Mrs not having to mess with 4wd control is a big thing too. A big peace of mind when it comes to reliability and build quality build in Japan Tahara factory, and many more.

Our family is strange that my wife hated vehicles like Subaru Ascent, she literally said WTF is this when she felt the turbo lag and cvt feeling. She did like to BMW X5 but not much complain driving the 4Runner. She loves the don't care driving style with the 4Runner.

Little more about street friendly AWD vs Fulltime 4WD, Our Venza with aftermarket tires, Subaru Ascent has got stuck in snow vs the Limited never got stuck on the biggest snow storm I've ever seen.

Many reasons I love it over others but I don't think many are not interested hearing about 4Runner good as a street vehicle.

    Interesting feedback here lol.

I still feel like your better off even if you use it to get buns from Costco or climb Moab with it,versus purchasing one of the newer SUVs/Crossovers from another brand with high tech equipment. Looking through the engine bay of the 4Runner (first time owner) the simplicity and access of components reliefs some worry when the time does comes - even compared to previous older BMWs ive owned this thing looks to be a joke to work on. My TJ is easy access, which is nice.

Before purchasing this I was on the fence on.
    Honda Pilot
    Toyota Highlander
    Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee
    BMW X3

I've read horror stories and fixes on all the above, which scared me. The 4Runners issues seem to be somewhat easily fixed/resolved or updated to remedy. My neighbour just spent $3800 out of pocket to replace power steering on his Pilot..

You must not see many of the stories on here from unsuspecting owners needing to replace kdss, xreas, front differentials, or timing cover seals outside of the warranty period. They get hit with bills for thousands of dollars and come here panicking.

Sure most of those have easy remedies, but that is the case for most issues on most makes. But if you take it to the dealer or uneducated shop you'll get hosed with most makes

See guys, we all got bamboozled by the hype and bought vehicles that are vastly outdated and not very good street vehicles. But these guys, they didn't get bamboozled by the hype. They only use their 4Runners for what they were designed for - hardcore off-roading/rock crawling. Does no one else see what these two are doing?

I also was bamboozled by toyotas supposed reliability and quality. But I bought it to serve a shuttle rig and general mountain vehicle so I knew it was going to get beat up. It also being a pile just helps you care less. Toyota knows its a turd, they even put it on the side.

Sure. But has the 4Runner randomly shut off? Does the valve cover gasket need replacing every 15k? Do the wheel speed rings swell up and cause havoc with the sensor readings? What about the cooling system - does it tend to explode on these also?

Sounds like to me the issues you’ve linked are far and fewer than the ones I’ve listed which are like a known issue and almost regular maintenance items. The only one I’ve heard a lot about on your list is the xreas, and needle bearing issue (which isn’t that common either?)

I wouldn't respond or argue/debate with these two. Consistent MO - as soon as a discussion starts relating to Limited trim - its "Limiteds look terrible", 'Limiteds are for soccer moms", etc... Call them out and they act like they haven't purposely tried to mess with anyone - they usually even try to play the victim. Typical passive/aggresive troll behavior. Something definitely lacking in their lives. Sad.

Limiteds do look terrible and most 4runners are driven by soccer moms. I am not sure what you're so offended about. At least we can all agree that the TRD Sport is the worst of the bunch.

I just purchased two brand new 4R Limiteds. Both look fabulous and perform flawlessly in all conditions, but they’re especially great on the highway.
