Had anyone installed or know of a larger Tesla style head unit for a 2023 TRD PRO?

i feel like doing simple tasks like adjusting fan speed or turning on/off the AC is suddenly a major task because of the loss of tactile knobs and buttons.

 

I've never heard anything good about these units. Either they die really quick or are slow pieces of trash. Car Trim Home (again a douche and I don't recommend most of what they sell) was trying them out and had nothing but issues so they stopped trying.

 

This. They are all cheap no name android tablets adapted to fit whatever car/truck they wish.

 

I find the Tesla style screens to be very distracting when driving, especially at night. My friend gave me a ride in his new Subaru which has one and, even as a passenger, I had to ask he turn it off after 5 minutes.

While that fixed the annoying screen glare issue, we could no longer adjust the climate control without turning the huge screen back on…..annoying to say the least.

I’d say try one first at night before committing. Personally hate them.

 

Two days ago I installed one in my 2023 ORP and have no issues with it. Screen brightness is easily adjustable, retained all steering wheel functions, fast boot, and is very responsive, and Apple Car Play is seamless. Time shall tell, but so far I love it.

Got it from Phoenix Automotive, the sound quality is better than the stock radio.

i have Phoenix 16'' radio in 2019 4runner trd off rd pre for about a year now with no issues. i put a sim card in the radio so i dont have to keep using a hotspot for service...you have the option to control your AC contol unit touch screen or with the knobs,even when the screen is off still can control it with the knobs...has google assit,works fine. for the sound system i thought my alpine 9 was powerful this unit knockout it out the box. very powerful system i had to upgrade all my speakers to kicker speakers way much better sound...the factory speakers were trash... you can play movies, youtube games search the web while you park waiting...awesome radio love it

Great! Any issues using the radio? I use a lot of FM and signal strength matters to me.

 

Why does it have some awful Chinese knock off jeep thing in the middle of the screen?

 

I’m waiting until I put in my new headlights to take a pic to replace it with.

 

I haven’t had any issues with FM reception.

 

Which Kicker speakers did you go with? I’m looking at putting Kickers all the way around.

 

Nice! Do the steering wheel controls maintain functionality? I've only had my ORP for 1 month and 2 days, so I would die a little inside doing this mod so soon, but this thread and the fact that it sounds better than the stock head unit, definitely has my attention!

 

I understand your hesitation, I had 400 miles on mine when I did the installation. Steering wheel functions are maintained, and you have the option of changing some of the steering wheel controls as well as the buttons on the head unit as well. I did not change any of the steering wheel or head unit functions.

It can be removed you need the program from them.they will send it to you

 

To each his or her own, but for me the current OEM screen is at a good spot for looking at though I wish it was at the level that the GX460 has it at. I could not imagine looking at this tablet screen that low on the center stack for info, and also I like my physical buttons for the climate control and if I wanted something different I'd look into seeing if the digital controls from the Limited could be retrofitted.
