Hey all, I just picked up an ‘04 SR5 v8 with 220k miles to use as my first off-road vehicle.
I am heading to Overland East with some friends in a couple weeks, and decided it would be a good idea to change the timing belt before the big trip.
After getting into it I decided The first frame cross is irreparably damaged , and those two metal coolant lines are extremely rusted. I have ordered a replacement frame cross (51021-35071), haven’t been able to track down a part number for the coolant lines, anyone know?

also, while I have the front of the engine so exposed, do you all recommend any other maintenance? :help:

here is a picture of what she looks like down there

Also, while removing the alternator the line to the battery just snapped off, I am not yet sure if I will be able to get the nut off. I hit it with some pb blast and am letting it soak in.
Any ideas if it is worth rescuing this part? Should I be considering finding a replacement?

And yes, it needs a new alternator.

I also have an 04 V8 4Runner (237k at the time) and just did the timing belt. While in there, I also did the Aisin water pump kit, belt tensioners, radiator, thermostat and all cooling hoses (and coolant), fan pulley assembly, serpentine belt, and I think that’s it. And by ‘I’ I mean a shop.

I got the Aisin kit, so it has the water pump and some of the idlers. Harmonic pulley has some rust on it, was planning to hit it with some rust converter, maybe I should replace instead?

RE: cooling lines, haven’t wanted to touch them, worried they would crumble  will look into the Trans cooler

The YouTube video I have been using https://youtu.be/zRPhl1xcYYw?si=i7Iz7DhAGvODzfft also replaced the radiator, I don’t see any visible damage to mine, but wasn’t sure if I should replace anyway

Mine was showing some crusties near the top so it was a no brainer for me.

I got a better picture of the coolant lines. I ordered a new set of lines and also ordered new power steering lines because the looked in similarly bad shape.

Those aren't coolant lines. Those lines are for the transmission fluid, running to and from the trans cooler in front of the radiator.

This alternator should be replaced with a new one. It's too far gone to try and salvage it. Use it as a core for the replacement. Get Denso or OEM.
