Thing is, it is like molasses moving downhill. It moves so slowly that change is not noticeable, until one day, it is.

I was getting into the habit of leaving the lights on all the time until my door lock actuator started acting up. Now I'm starting to just flip them on after I start it.

So we learned about the constitution but it was taught more in history classes. As a high school student, "history" always seemed like "shit that happened a long time ago that may or may not still be relevant". I feel like more emphasis should have been put on civics and how our history is still relevant today.

I always had a love for history and was a history major when I initially went to college before dropping out (then going back and finishing in my mid 30s). As a result, I learned a lot and have a different perspective than others. I found it a bit weird as I got older that we didn't learn a lot about politics in school - where I come from, I guess you just learn a bunch of biased stuff from your parents. But hey, as small as my town was GWB did drop by before being elected the first time and I think Trump stopped by there just a few months ago

Good to know - I've heard those can be an issue. Was it your driver's door? I feel like that's the first to show issues but probably because it's used the most. Did the key still work? +1 for having a key in the '19 if it saved the day

Yes, the key still works when it acts up. It seems to get aggravated by mud or dust. Sometimes it won't work for a week or two after a good off-roading trip. But, it always seems to start working again eventually.

Driver's door as best I can tell.

I read somewhere the only right that can't be taken away is the right to defend yourself. Is all you really have.

To that end, we don't have any rights but the right we are willing to take. And the rights we are willing to fight to keep. Case in point, we've lost pretty much all privacy in my lifetime. Companies know exactly what you are doing at all times. 25 years ago this would have been unacceptable. But we just didn't care.

Good point about privacy. It's not even that we lost it, really. We traded it for these nifty phones.

Unfortunately, this has become the way. We were taught there is no such thing as a free lunch but apparently that campaign didn't stick - not sure it's even taught anymore

I'm old enough to remember that half-semester civics class. As well as two full years of U.S. History class. It seems today - at least in the Public school system - they don't want the kids to learn any history previous to the Viet Nam war era (?)

It's a lot of history to teach, and to learn. I essentially remember American history as being the wars we've fought (mostly starting with American Revolution with some older references like the French and Indian war).

You could start with middle school but I'm not sure how much would stick - which means you have 4 years of high school. Honestly, I learned a lot of my history from watching TV (I've spent a lot more time doing that than going to school) but that was also when History Channel only showed documentaries about history (and when TLC was truly The Learning Channel) rather than the reality TV show crap they play now

I can't seem to find the quote now but I read something once along the lines of "a day in the mind of a dog".

It talks about the dog daydreaming about the litter box and wondering why the owner tries to keep it away from the chocolate covered in candy sprinkles

My ex and I invested in a gate to keep him from accessing the cat litter box. ;)

Now I have the cat and she has the dog, so it's no longer an issue.

I can't speak for divorce settlements, because we never got married. In 21 years, she always seemed uninterested in marriage.

I left her with everything because I just needed to get out. I wound up with the dog last year when she got sick. When she got out of the hospital, I took the dog to her and got the cat, as she needed to go live with her parents and they didn't want a cat. She wasn't expected to live more than a few months, so I thought I'd wind up with the dog also, but she somehow recovered. It's been a hell of a couple of years.
