Xras overhaul

Hello all,

After hours of searching youtube for some kind of tutorial to replace the rear shocks of my 2007 4runner/sport, I have found myself here. Removing and replacing shocks are simple enough typically for me. However I’m hung up on the whole Hydraulic side of things. I know once I detach the Hydraulic line from the shock. Hydronic Fluid will escape and will have to be replaced. How is this done, is my major question and what if any special tools will I need to complete this task.
So far I am under the impression that all four shocks must be replaced because they all are connected. If anyone has any knowledge of how to go about this task of mine. It would be a huge help to me and perhaps someone else having the same issue.

 

You should really try searching the forums on this subject as it's been covered countless times already.

Basic answer you need to hear is stop messing with the XREAS, remove it completely and throw it in the trash. Replace it with standard shocks and spring from a 4runner without XREAS. Live a happy life.

XREAS is ridiculously expensive to repair/replace and really not worth the effort.

 

To do it correctly you will have to replace all the shocks and the accumulator mounted on the frame rail. The dealer charges around 5k to do it.

As said above unless you just want to spend the money dump it and get 4 non XREAS OEM of your choice or aftermarket shocks and save thousands. Also doing it at home is not easy and will not save you that much over the dealer.

I had my limited replaced under warranty. If it had not been covered I would not have replaced it because of the cost just on the parts alone.

 

Unless you are specifically talking about servicing the XREAS, this statement isn't accurate.

Eliminating and replacing the XREAS system yourself at home is pretty damn simple, if you are familiar with turning wrenches. And it can save you WAY more than the dealer, even on labor alone. When I replaced my shocks/springs the first time and eliminated the XREAS system, I only had about $500 into the new parts and did all the work myself.

 

I am talking about replacing it with a new XREAS. Not removing it. Removing it is very easy.
