We have owned our 3rd Ten for 20 years, now at 347K MILES....THE REMOTES ARE STARTED TO ACT FUNNY. Replaced the batteries, still it will still lock (1 chirp) but you have to be right by the door. And when unlocking (2 chirps), it only unlock the drivers door.

I am guessing I just need to order new remotes, but wanted to get anyones experience and maybe a recommendation for an aftermarket remote, rather then the $150 from the dealer.

    TIA

Maybe I should have reworded the Title to "IS THERE A BETTER UPGRADE OR FIX?

This is assuming you have an RS3000 that was port installed?

You're assuming we'll know this about your vehicle.

Remotes can be had for cheap online and programmed by the owner.

My remote went funny exactly like that. Replaced the fob and it's good to go again. New battery didn't help.

I don't recommend remote start kits, they go bad quick.

You get more range if you hold the remote under your chin. It uses your body as an antenna.

I did not know there was more than one. It is the 99-22 FCC-ID: HYQ1512Y which is the back of the remote. P/N 89742-35050 is what I googled- maybe its the RS3000....IDK
3 Button FOB with Red Panic Button on the back. THx for helping

You can try to cut the power but it's probably not going to allow the car to start.

I'm afraid you're going to need the dealer or a car alarm expert to look at this.

Port installed = installed at the port of entry\import.

The 'more than one' is because many of these old vehicles did not have keyless entry and/or alarm.

Many, and I mean many people acquire a vehicle and assume the items and accessories are all factory.

You did state you owned it for 20 years, but a practice done back then (and continues to this day) are accessories being installed from a dealer before it's sold.

These are small add-ons where the dealership installs a $50 item and marks it up as a $500 accessory on the addendum sticker next to the window sticker.

Port installed described above; many items were not installed at the factory where the vehicle was manufactured.

You would just simply look at your module and see what style it is.

I have the instruction and programming manual for the alarm if you need it? You can like program the chirp off, or have it arm without the doors locked.

SR5 Limited...thank you. Do you think it will work with the wires cut to the siren alarm. That dang thing was driving me and my neighbors nuts. 6 different modes of sirens and buzzers and horns. For 20 years it has never been an issue (says a lot for the key fobs back in 2002). I just will not try to program this thing with that alarm going off. Also mine is the FCC ID: H83LEC-8R....a company called Extreme Electronics. Is yours the same?

Cut the wires and if you need to reconnect them.

A picture of the remote would've helpful at the very beginning, but I was right

    That isn't even a port-installed option.

Looks like a cheap keyless entry/alarm.

Again, look for an installation manual and see if you can uninstall it. These things are usually wired into the ignition and into all the electronic door locks and maybe the ecu.

If you're lucky it's just an alarm and not an immobilizer.

Well, my instructions are for stock. Consider yourself lucky to have gotten 20 years out of an aftermarket. Find the fuse for main power to it should be a red wire? Remove the whole thing?
