    Here's one I forgot about...

One of only two 2nd Gen T4Rs I've photographed in the last 3 years! It was being serviced at a nearby garage (that's why there's two guys under the hood)...

    Same T4R...

It had Minnesota plates, and unlike Pennsylvania, Minnesota is not a one-plate state, so I had to blur out the license plates...

Both the silver 4th Gen I was parked next to, and this one, looked like they'd been involved in accidents and repaired in a rather half-assed way...

I have driven a Toyota 4Runner before. It was a 2006 SR5 4x4 belonging to my cousin-in-law (cousin's husband), and I drove it back in 2010, when I still had my learner's permit! By the way, my cousin and her family live in Northern California. I am merely assuming that it was legal to drive in California on a Pennsylvania learner's permit?!?! My cousin's husband was 31 years old at the time, in the truck with me, and obviously had a driver's license, so it's not like I was driving without an unlicensed driver present...

Anyway, my family has owned three Toyotas in the last 35 years; a 1983 Toyota Celica GT that my dad bought brand new when he joined the Navy (1983-1990), a 1990 Toyota Camry LE V6 (owned 1990-1998), and the 2010 Tacoma I drive now (purchased in September 2009). My dad came very close to becoming a T4R owner in 1996, when he decided to trade in his 1993 Chevy S-10 Blazer 4x4.

However, we went to dealers in a roughly 40-50 mile radius of where we living at the time (Philadelphia suburbs; back living there now), and absolutely no dealer was willing to go below sticker on a futhermucking '96 T4R, at least not a 4x4 with the options my dad wanted! At one point, my dad found a brand new 1996 at a dealership (I think it was Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield, where he bought my present Tacoma more than 13 years later), and the price must of have been really good because I remember him getting excited. I do vaguely remember that it had steel wheels like the one in this link ( http://www.autorimshop.com/toyota-4...FR_V0XnaE9nnCoINoiEHQ3DFL5OKKxV8aAvGuEALw_wcB ), so I'm guessing it was no higher than an SR5. My dad then realized it wasn't 4-wheel drive and we passed it by...

The one I remember best is a green Limited 4x4 at a Toyota dealer in Allentown. I was 7 years old at the time, and it was pouring rain. My parents were chatting with the salesman, and I asked the salesman something like "Excuse me, how much is this 4Runner?" The salesman told me "$32,000." We ended up walking a short time later...

I spotted the also new-for-1996 Nissan Pathfinder in a magazine ad, told my dad he should look at it, and after he test drove one that's what he ended up buying. Specifically, he bought a fully loaded 1996 Pathfinder SE 4x4, and it ended up being one of the best vehicles we ever had! We had it for 13 years, up until my dad traded it for my Tacoma in 2009.

The night we bought the Tacoma, my dad told me on the way there not to get my hopes up because he didn't expect to be able to negotiate on a new Toyota. The sticker on the Tacoma I have now was was a little over $17K if I remember correctly. After trading in the Pathfinder and negotiating a bit, he left that night with a brand new Tacoma for under $15K!

So, the question I'm asking is in the title...

I have never had to buy a 4runner at sticker or above. they are going to deal all day long. Just depends how good you are at working them. Always work dealers against each other as well. involves lying a little bit, but it works, especially if you are ready to buy now.

I paid $1300 under MSRP and got the EXACT vehicle I wanted. Not a huge discount but considering other dealers were all asking $4,000 and more over MSRP, and none of them had exactly what I wanted, I feel pretty good about it.

Also, the more I drive this thing the better I feel about it. ZERO buyer's remorse.
