Is my 4runner lifted?

New 4runner owner and first time poster, just bought a 2019 TRD Offroad a couple of weeks ago. It looks like it may a slight little bit of a lift or leveling kit but I don't know how to tell for sure. I want want to change over wheels and add AT tires a little larger but trying to figure what size tire without having any rubbing issues. I've search the forum best I know how but haven't found a good answer yet. It's running 265/70/17 Bridgestone tires on factory wheels and I did measure from center of wheel to bottom of the wheel well and it measures out to 22 1/4.

 

Easiest way for us to tell is to post a picture of the front suspension. Generally the front is about 1.5-2 inches lower than the front.

I have a 2021 TRD OR and will share before and after heights so you can compare to your 2019.

Prior to installing Bilstein 5100 adjustable front shocks on the OEM coil springs, the measurement from center of wheel hub to fender lip on the front was 19 3/4" on both driver and passenger sides. After installing the Bilstein 5100's on the OEM coil springs @ a planned .85" lift height (2nd ring), the measurement after a few weeks of driving is 21" on both driver and passenger front sides. A little more lift than expected but not necessarily unusual. The measurement you shared of 22 1/4" certainly seems like you have a lifted front suspension based on a comparison with mine. I doubt that the 2019 and 2021 have that much difference in OEM ride heights...

Also for reference, I installed Bilstein 5100's on the rear keeping the OEM springs and saw no change in ride height. Both driver and passenger sides measured 22" from center of hub to fender lip before and after.

I've attached a pic of the front Bilstein 5100's installed on the 2nd clip location from the bottom using OEM coils. You should inspect the front shock/spring setup on your 4R and see if you can tell in the shocks/springs have been changed. Also look for spacers on top of the coil spring top hat as that is a common way to lift.

And, if you can take a similar pic of your rig front shock/spring set up and share, the knowledgeable members here will very likely be able to diagnose how your suspension is set up...

The simplest thing to do is just measure the heights. Measure the center of the hub to the bottom of the fender. Do this to each corner. the stock height of the 4runner is:

front : ~ 20”
Rear : ~ 22”

trd pro will be ~ 20.5” - 20.75” in the front

The front definitely looks lifted. Not sure about the rear. Can you get a picture in the wheel well of the strut mounts?

 

Here is one that is Not Lifted or had level kit installed from Looking at your picture I would guess that it has a leveling kit installed because looking at the front wheel well it looks like you can see a silver (Aluminum) round spacer in there.

Lift isn't the only issue with rubbing and 285s.

 

you could probably get away with 285's with minor (very easy) trimming work, but may need to do a body mount chop... there is no way of knowing for sure until you actually try it. also, not all 285's are the same size... KO2's tend to run small from what I hear. safe bet would be to go with 275's but you will only find E load in that size (which I like to run, but many don't). a more aggressive tire in stock size will look much better than your highway tires.... or even try 255/75 (definitely fit) or even 255/80 (probably fit).

there are lots of options. in my opinion tires are the hardest thing to decide on. so many variables. good luck.

i did a 275/70/17 on '18 limited with -12 offset wheels, went with falken wildpeak. Great looking tires but it rubs when on full turn. Ive got bilstein kit 5100 now that i m planning on installing to get about 2 inches lift. I don't think that'll help not rub. i think my problem started with me getting the -12 offset. i don't want to do a BMC just cause i've never welded before so I am not sure if i am up for that task. Planning on doing the work this weekend if i get a chance but I'll update here if it works. Hope to hear from others with similar challenges and the remedies. Cheers!

 

new owner here of a 2023 Trd offroad premium. I posted in the new member thread a struggle I had with the old man emu BP51, long story short, I sold the pair after test driving them for one day. But I face a new challenge, I had my old mechanic put the factory system back, only to quickly learn on a Youtue video that the Tokico spring for driver side and passenger side are different, one would compress more (basically you can count less rings than the other, one is 9 the other is 10, or 8 versus 9). The challenge here is that the Tokico sticker indicate the same part number, but because that's for the strut, there is no visual indicator on the spring itself...After the re-installation, there is no lean, truck looks and drives fine, and I measured center hub to fender, same on both sides, so, I may have got lucky. Now the question is if I want to do Bilstein 5100, I need to know which spring goes to which side. If anyone know please educate, thank you!!

 

If it's level side to side now, just put the same springs with the Bilstein 5100s that are on each side back where they are now. If you're going to have a shop do it, mark the springs DS & PS yourself prior to taking it in.

BTW, the spring with more coils goes to the driver's side, as that's the side with more weight, mostly due to the gas tank. Can you tell if that's how yours are now?
