So when you get a new vehicle, do you tip the person who sold it to you?

    If so, how much ???

    I'm picking mine tomorrow..

    Thanks

I’ve never done that. But I say tip if you want to, and tip an amount that would bless the other person and will also leave you feeling good about the tip.

I have bought an insane amount of vehicles in my life. Have never tipped the salesman, until I bought our current Toyota’s. Nothing big, just a $50 gift card. Small town dealership, great service, good guy. I will do business with him again.

I have bought many, many vehicles along the way, never tipped nor did I ever think about it. Except, when I bought my 4Runner early this year, I figured out a bit after delivery that the salesman was quietly paying for a couple options to be delivered later (rear cargo cover and locking lug nuts - about $300+ retail, a lot less at whatever salesman had to pay). I was a little skeptical due to delays that he was scamming me, but he came through and overall I thought he was a good salesman and guy, so I gave him a thank you note and a $50 gift card.

But in general, I'd say tips are virtually never given nor are they expected.

I would never tip a car salesperson. If you received amazing service, the best reciprocation that you can give them is referral business. Nothing beats word-of-mouth advertising and referrals.

Nope dealers actually dislike it for safety reasons to many glass offices. Personal check and cashiers check is preferred.

A tip is a means of thanking someone for a service performed. People like to base it on a percentage, perhaps because that’s easier. But what do you think of how they served you? Tip accordingly. Don’t whip out a calculator and guidebook and tip ‘properly’. It should never be based on the cost of the goods or services, because after all, who’s going to tip 15% on a $50k vehicle? But then, I never tip 15% on an $8 meal. That’s an insult. Perspective, folks.

Not a chance in hell. I bought new for the first time in 2016, and since I couldn't bring my late father I went with my father-in-law to close the deal and thank goodness I did because the amount of items he scratched off the salesman's proposal, and refused to pay, was staggering. What was funny is I didn't know you could say no to things lol. I've said here before, dealerships and sales people are not your friends even though you might think they are it's a business and everybody looks out for numero Uno

NO. That's what their commission is for.

Also, why would you want to tip the person who probably just f****d you?

Tipping a salesperson on a $60,000 CAD truck almost makes me more angry to hear than when the shittiest sandwich makers on the planet - Subway sandwich artists, started asking for tips on the debit machine every purchase.

Shouldn’t we expect good service when we purchase a vehicle? Tipping is for those that don’t make minimum wage to make up the difference. Do you tip the police officer after they give you a speeding ticket? They are doing their job.

Hey OP @taco_runner don't get me wrong, I know I'm like the Scrooge of tipping, but heck if you are more kind than I and can afford it then go ahead.

Fuck no. I'm in sales albeit not car sales.

No. You don't tip sales reps.

The only time I would pay a rep is if I paid him on the side to get a better deal, and overall saved money by doing so.

Serious question. Is your rep cute and are you looking for an excuse to tip them or something?

    That’s a rather astute question.

    What!
    isn't my sale enough?
I am usually not happy at dealerships. The thought of tipping does not cross my mind.
