Thanks for the visual. Changed my differential and transfer case fluids over the weekend. So I had a chance to inspect the wheel wells. Turns out almost all of the grommets holding my fender linings are loose af. :annoyed:
Looks like I’m on to another project next weekend.

Yep. Drove me crazy for months. I had it in with Toyota multiple times. They changed speaker covers and other things to “fix” this rattle. Told me my speaker covers were broken. I don’t believe that they were just punting the ball. Even told me they couldn’t hear it near the end. They just wanted me to go away. Thanks to this awesome forum the rattle is gone from the steering column. It was the rivets holding the flap like so many have pointed out.

Just in case anyone else is having a similar issue I chased down a vibration to the steering wheel volume and other controls after several months and a few trips to the dealer. Sounded like it was coming from outside or a windshield leak. Easy to determine if this is the culprit by applying pressure to the buttons with your palms while driving to stop any vibration. I don’t have a good remedy to fix the issue. Buttons on both sides of the steering wheel have the issue.

OH MY GOSH. IT WAS DRIVING ME INSANE. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I had a subwoofer installed and a remote start and thought the dude that installed it left a loose cord hanging or something. The amount of times I’ve been moving stuff around under the dash to try and solve the noise. I heard that noise when I was not driving my 4Runner. I heard it in my dreams. Gosh thank you so much, that made my day!
Now if I could only figure out this pesky high pitched whistle coming from the passenger side of the engine bay when I am stepping on the gas/releasing the pedal, all my problems would be solved. It’s only gotten louder since I threw the cold air intake on. Smh. Wouldn’t know anything about that would ya?

Aftermarket intakes are notorious for creating a whistling noise. The last 2 I tried both drove me crazy.
