    Hey everyone.
I have a 2008 Limited 4WD with Xreas and rear air suspension and 223K miles. I'm trying to get a shop to rip out the Xreas and replace with Bilstein 5100s in the front and 4600s in the rear. The air bags in teh rear are still functioning fine.
My question (and I've read so many threads I'm spinning lol)...
Do I need to remove the rear air bags and install springs or can I continue on with the stock airbag system with the new 4600s?

XREAS and the airbag system are completely separate from each other. So from that aspect, yes, you can keep the airbag system. The caveat comes when you are trying to lift the truck. That's when you need to start thinking about disabling and eliminating the air bag system. There are kits out there to do that quickly and efficiently. My recommendation would be the kit from Metaltech4x4 - https://metaltech4x4.com/metal-tech-gx460-rear-coil-conversion-kit-stage-1/

Thanks for the response. I'm aware that they're completely separate. I guess where things get confusing for me, and every local shop I've talked to (I'm struggling to find anyone who's willing/able to do it) is whether or not installing the 5100s in the front (to level) and 4600s in the rear (stock height) will require the airbags to be removed. As far as I'm aware the stock airbags are working just fine with no leaks. The Xreas, however, is beginning to leak fluid.
The one shop I've found willing to at least try and get me a quote is hung up on the air bags.

I'd be raising the front an inch or so to level out the truck...4600s in the rear would be stock since they aren't adjustible.

    Appreciate any guidance on this!

If all you're doing in the rear is replacing the shocks with 4600s, then the air bags should be a non-issue. The springs aren't being touched.

You could save a ton of $ by DIYing it if you can. which started with taking out my X-REAS, may be helpful, if for nothing more than understanding exactly what the shop is going to do. Even has links to the service manual instructions for removing the X-REAS. (As with anything, the decision whether to DIY and responsibility for safely doing so rests with you.)

In a nutshell, I replaced the X-REAS with 2015 Tacoma takeoffs and a pair of FJ springs for the rear; when those wore out, I did it again with 2020 Tacoma components (except I got the 4Runner 4600s for the rear); and when I was ready to go new all around, I sold everything and went with Eibach shocks & springs. Highly recommend them btw if you decide not to go Bilstein for whatever reason.

Thanks! I'll take a look. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or space to do it DIY right now. Hopefully I will in the future.

The goal right now is to ditch the dying Xreas and level the truck...keeping the ride height stock. I'd like to keep the airbags since they aren't leaking and work great. My Limited OEM 18-inch wheels are starting to pit and I'm considering replacing these with 17-inch TDR wheels and 32-inch tires...which, from what I've read, will fit without having to modify anything.
