I've been going back and forth with them, and they are refusing to answer any questions like that. They won't even tell me how they intend to fix the issue and I am now finding more areas on the car that are beginning to peel. I'm thinking it's time to get a lawyer involved.

I thought about doing full ppf when I bought new but toyotas reputation for poor paint made me hold off. I'm glad I did too because within a year my super white was peeling in spots.

That would be my advice. Does your state have a "lemon law?" I live in New York State and once used that on a 1995 F-150 with soft paint and ended up with a new truck.

In my, albeit, uneducated opinion, Chemist know the proper formulas for paint to stick to the sheet metal body and plastic bumpers.
Fortunately, one type (either/or) does a great job to adhere to its intended surface.
Then it's up to the bean counters to always decide which is the most profitable to the Co.
The easily formed, molded and aerodynamic plastic body parts that really took off in the mid-'70's, always had cracked, chipped and peeling problems. And of course, the bean counters were there too, to seek profit for the Co.
Nothing has changed but, the wants of our younger generations wanting instant gratification. Again, the bean counters don't give AF
    about your feelings.

My 2008 4Runner is badly in need of a paint job. I plan to sell it in 2025 and get a new 4Runner.

I drove to Fl, 800 miles and the hood had tiny chips everywhere. One day. Come on Toyota. MGM. 2019 model. If I ever buy another 4runner, first business is to get that fancy coating put on it. Before it is even driven. I will tow to the place to do it.
Paint fade and chips are a Toyota issue..

My plan for my 23 Pro is drive it to the place that is doing my PPF and the boss is giving me a piece to wrap the front to drive it there to protect it. And plan on doing a track pack on it. It won’t look pretty driving it home but it will protect the front.

I am new to this forum so I’m not sure I’m doing this correctly. In August I bought a ‘23 ORP 4Runner. Within the first month of having it the passenger side front fender flare got a small chip down to the bare plastic. A couple weeks later the passenger rear bumper got a chip down to bare plastic as well. The front bumper has small chips all over but I’ve read that is really common being a high impact area. I got full front PPF applied afterwards once I became aware of the film. I wish I had known about the film when I first got the car. I could have saved myself from minor heartache. I’ve never had a car chip so easily before. Yesterday I noticed an another small deep chip on the edge of the rear driver door. I’m worried about rust now. I’ve done my best to touch all of them up with Dr. Color Chip. I am glad I am not the only one with this problem so early on. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with this issue!

Yes. My 4Runner is 9 months old and multiple paint chips on front of car. All of them small and don’t seem to have signs of trauma like small dent or scratch.

Toyota should be ashamed of themselves for this quality of paint job on an over $50k vehicle. Makes me reluctant to want to get another 4Runner or Land Cruiser if this the games they going to be playing.

Additionally Toyota should be downright embarrassed by the quality of the backup up camera they use on 2022 and 2023 MTM camera system. So awful in good conditions. In dim light or night or bad weather it’s unusable, pretty much unsafe and dangerous to use.

blows my mind the people at Toyota would put this out to the public and think it’s acceptable. Embarrassing when you spend over $50k on a vehicle!!!!!!

Cannot believe how many people complain about the paint or anything else when there is so many cars or SUV’s or trucks to choose from. I have owned a lot of Toyota’s over the years and still buy them because of the reliability and coolness factor. If you do your homework before you buy a vehicle you can know what to expect for the most part.

Nothing I could do. In classic Toyota fashion, clear coat started pealing at 5 years, even though I took the upmost care with waxing, filling chip, etc. It's never been garaged because I don't have room to build another garage. So it sits out in the elements and gets beat down.

Going to hit up Maaco or similar before I sell it.

No need to act like a clown. Everyone here loves our 4Runners and we know the paint jobs aren't good. That doesn't mean we have to like that aspect of the vehicle. So maybe dismount from your high horse and join us regular folk. Lol

My very first car was a used 3rd gen and that was my dream car. I then got a 4th gen, a hand-me-down from my brother. My current 4Runner is my first brand new one so understandably I would like to enjoy the “newness” for just a little while. I never thought in less than a month of ownership it would start chipping down to bare plastic & metal. Had I known there was an issue with the paint & PPF existed I would have done something immediately to protect it as best I could. Not everyone knows what all needs to be researched on any given vehicle before purchase. Obviously, I didn’t just randomly get a 4Runner as my next car instead of all the other options out there. I knew what I wanted because I’ve owned them in the past and love the look and reliability.

My 4R has down a lot of highway roadtrip miles so the front bumper, hood, fenders and rear passenger doors have a quite a few chips that I've tried to keep on top of with touch up paint.

I regret being too cheap to put PPF on the entire front clip when I got the truck so when I recently brought home the trucks new little buddy (2023 Prius Prime) I paid the money and had the entire hood, front bumper, full fenders and mirror caps done with PPF. Lesson learned with the 4R.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.

I knew before hand about the rust, the mpg’s and not being the most peppy (although coming from a Subaru Forester the 4Runner is a tad quicker). The paint wasn’t expected. Although my wife had a Toyota Corolla and the paint on roof started prematurely fading and peeling

Is this paint thing just a 4Runner thing or all Toyota? I’m rather fond of Tundra’s but wouldn’t want to get one if paint issues. Y neighbor has one like 9 years old and paint looks flawless

tried to buy touch up paint from dealership yesterday and it’s supposedly on back order. Anyone recommend a good touch up paint? I think I have pearl or blizzard white.

So true, my 6 year old grandson looked at it and asked why it was so fuzzy, a total embarrassment for an 2023 vehicle! I just sold an 8 year old F150, the camera was an 8" crystal clear display with zoom!! WTF Toyota????? It's not safe at all, someone is going to get run over and hopefully toyota gets their asses sued and has to correct this joke of a camera, it's completely unacceptable.
edit: sorry op, didn't mean to jack, rant over.

Was probably an ok camera for 2010. And since people keep buying the 4Runner, no need to update I guess. We have a 2015 Highlander and the camera is very nice. Has markers on it for alignment and the view is very clear.

6th gen 4Runner, I think I will definitely go with that protective film stuff.
Definitely want to know what they say/do. Please keep us posted.

They downgraded the camera when they added the mutli camera system. The camera prior has a higher resolution

The price they are charging for the paint protection for a piece of plastic film that is half the thickness of paper is highway robbery. There I said it. You can let your hood and bumper get chipped, and repaint it in 3-5 years for 1/3 of what the paint protection film costs. Its an absolute racket. They know people who want this product are passionate about protecting their vehicle and exploit that.

Im in Metro Detroit and called around the past 2 days for quotes. The cheapest I got was $1,900 and the most was $2,800. This was just for the front bumper, hood, back sides of the mirrors.
Most places sell Xpel. 1 place sold 3M (and they werent the cheapest!). The markup on this product is akin to that kid who made insulin prices go up from like $12 a vial to $600.

Is it the camera they downgraded or the display the car got downgraded? I vaguely remember the dealership service person say something about they changed the maker of the display for Panasonic to some other company (I forget the name) or vice versa.

Does anyone know if it’s a certain color paint prone to chipping off? I’ve heard some it’s mainly the white color.
