Anyone else find it somewhat fascinating that humans couldn't get along well enough to avoid two world wars when the population was about 1/4 of what it is today?

Kind of amazing how we continue breeding like rabbits and surviving. I guess a lot of that had to do with advances in medicine, sanitation, and food production

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Both my sons were brought home from the hospital in Goldie, both got to drive it off road at <13, both did their driving test in it, the youngest took it to college to get his BS and MS in mechanical engineering 8yrs ago……after 6 years of college he thought I gave it to him, (NFW)….gears ground. I had to buy back my own car so he had money to put toward his own 96 4R(graduation gift) and he still has it.

Okay. It’s bee gnawing at me. I have to vent and I apologize in advance because it’s going to hurt some feelings. Ruffle some feathers. Make some enemies. You know what grinds my gears? The thought that every last part on the 4Runner has to be blackout. Blackout badges. Blackout exhaust tip. Black wheels. This is what put me over the edge: a thread about getting rid of the chrome start ring. Are you freaking kidding me?! What in the h-e-double toothpicks is going on here?! Do you blackout guys think it makes you look tough? Or maybe it will make your truck invisible? The pure vanity of it makes me cringe. Posers! And all you guys with the LED bulb fetish - I’ve got my eye on you too.

Okay. (pant -pant) Blood pressure dropping. (pant-pant) Heart rate slowing. Peripheral vision returning. Don’t hate me. Direct your angst at @FN2187. This thread was his idea.

Interestingly enough my 2020 came with all the black stuff on the formerly shiny stuff. I didn't know it was a "thing" until folks started posting about it. Don't hate me yet.:crapstorm:

Now my dander is up and I’ve got more to say. Above we were deriding the terms “I know, right?” and “Well yeah,no.” Add to those the use of the phrase “… but you do you.” What kind of Prius-driving, latte-slurping, Whole-Foods-shopping soy boy crap is that? “I’m too much of a half-man to ackshually tell you you’re wrong so I’m just going to acknowledge that you can do whatever you want while only implying that it’s stupid but I reserve the right to look askance at you with my lips pursed and my hands on my hips and be all judgy.”

    Pandora’s box has been opened.

One purpose of the roundabouts in Cottonwood is to the locals a decent shot at safely getting onto the highway that bisects the town. It was a working town on the edge of vacationland. Many vehicles are pulling trailers with farm equipment, ranch equipment, horses, ATVs, motorcycles, boats, etc. onto a road where the speed limit was 45, but the speed of traffic
I accepted the blackout because that's what was on the allocated vehicle in transit and I didn't want to mess with the negotiated price. If I could choose freely, I would only have blacked out a few things, like the C-pillar badges. I think the blacked out "4Runner" on the back looks wrong because it makes a big island of black against the classic silver hatch.

If the chrome start ring isn’t blacked out, the magnified reflections from the 12,000 lumen interior LED lights would burn holes in the headliner. Or worse, burn holes in your junk if the angle’s just right.

Also, not sure why there’s even a start button on these things to begin with. It’s not a lemans race car or anything. It’s a 4runner, keys are just fine. Hell, two bare wires are more fitting than a start button.

Whew, for a minute there I thought you were talking about me! I had blackout overlays on the c-pillar but replaced with mix of red TRD and black Off Road. Front/backs are overlayed in red. The toyota Sombrero on my steering wheel is overlayed in red.

I agree, those guys blacking out everything are a bunch of ding dongs!

I am not offended in the least
No hurt feelings here. Feathers perfectly coiffed. Ready to smoke the peace pipe, except I don't smoke. Anything.

I like Blackout. Still. Even now that the novelty has worn off. I think it's because I used to go to my local "Bike Night," which should have been called "Harley and maybe One or Two of Something Else Night." Chrome this. Chrome that. Chrome on top of chrome. I developed a serious chrome aversion, so the 4Runner Blackout trend has felt like aloe on a burn. Ahhh....!

I already have the Blackout for the steering wheel, now I just need a 4Runner to stick to the back of it...

Yeah, I went back to school while working full time a few years ago. I paid as I went with my wife's help. It sucked for sure because working 40-70 hrs/wk (getting paid for 40, being on salary), getting my tuition reimbursement rejected by the company, and not going to a well known "prestigious" school left me worrying if it was worth it. But graduating with no debt, getting a job with a great well known company despite not graduating from a well known school, then doubling my salary within 3 years showed me I made the right decision.

Seeing a couple of years later that student loans might be "forgiven", meaning I would pay for other people's poor decisions with my taxes, pissed me off to no end

Maybe this will have a positive result if it gets the whole college loan industry to pull back. Something has smelled fishy about the higher ed for a while now. Too many on-line colleges popping up that just seem designed to generate student loans.

If the banks don’t see a profit in making every effort to financially trap naive and unsavvy students, maybe they’ll grant less loans. And schools will see less value in stupid fields of study.

It’s kind of crazy how so many people end up mortgaging their entire future away. And how schools and banks don’t really discourage that.

I don't see the loan industry pulling back. It was the college loan industry that pushed for changes in the bankruptcy laws some years ago. Student loan debt cannot be discharged in bankruptcy court. It is just a different kind of slavery.

Yeah, for sure it’s a form of financial slavery. Now that I think of it. It’s federal loan forgiveness isn’t it. They need to pass laws that will make the private banks hurt instead. But the law to prevent bankruptcy discharge just emboldens them. Wouldn’t surprise me if that's made the student loan crisis significantly worse.
Bankruptcy could have functioned as a “brake” on the banking industry by making them experience the consequences of their lending decisions.

I flew to TPA from Dulles few yrs back and the return flight got rerouted to Jersey and I would not claim my bags. What a mess that was to get my bags back to Dulles with me on the same flight.

My youngest daughter is starting college this year. I’ve been saving for it since she was born and have it covered. But maybe I’ll tell her to take out a $10k loan and bank it for a year or two. If student loan forgiveness happens, then woohoo free money! Courtesy of the taxpayer! If not, she just pays it off early.

I would never really do that. It’s corrupt as hell.

Based on your previous posts which reveal a bit of your character, I was surprised and disappointed until I went back and noticed the fine print I had missed the first time.

    You got me. ;)

Good for you saving for your daughter. "Saving" seems to be an obsolete concept nowadays.
