First 5k sweet and gentle miles have been put on my 4Runner and I did a little service.

Changed cabin air filter with Fram Fresh Breeze filter. Local dealership wanted $75. Did it myself for $20 in less than 5 minutes with most likely a better quality air filter.
    https://amzn.to/44Km2LK

Changed engine air filter. Wasn’t horribly dirty but I do drive dusty desert roads. Dealership wanted $80. Did it myself in under 5 minutes with Wix filter for $19 below. Most likely better quality as well than the OEM.
    https://amzn.to/3R1fIfv

Wanted higher quality oil filter so had Dealership reluctantly use this Royal Purple one when they did my oil change. It is rumored to be same as or very similar to TRD Pro filter but almost 1/2 the price.
    https://amzn.to/45sbvWx

Used this Techron fuel system cleaner a couple fill ups before my oil change.
    https://amzn.to/45sbvWx

Got this center console organizer. It’s nice and worth it for sure. Would probably put this in top 10 upgrades to do.
    https://amzn.to/3ErsEnr

What oil did I use one might ask? Sweet OEM Toyota Synthetic nectar 0-20w
    https://amzn.to/3qUIofB

Almost got this K&N Engine Air filter below. Seems good but reviews seem to be hit or miss. Might try it out at some point in the future though just for giggles.

And that folks is all the damage for this week.

Since doing this I almost feel my 4Runner has a faintly little more pep to it and improved mpg’s (like 0.25-0.5mpg). Is this possible or in my head placebo effect?

Tires rotated yesterday and this is where I am at(255/80 Wildpeaks).

    Tire 1: 47,498 miles 7/32's
    Tire 2: 30,040 miles 10/32's
    Tire 3: 8,748 miles 14/32
    Tire 4: 5,159 miles 14/32

Tire 3 and 4 were replaced due to thread separation. Tire 1 and 2 were noticeably worse this winter than previous winters. Overall pretty disappointed in the tread issues but I am looking at the Wildpeak RT's. They have been wearing pretty well overall though. I should definitely beat the 55k mileage warranty which is good.

Do you have a part number for the black scoop? Did you reuse existing hardware for install?

I printed this and took it to my local dealer and they matched the price. Included ALL hardware and weather stripping

Also, check out this video for installation.

Easy mod, the hardest thing was removing the hood heat barrier. You will break some of the clips. Order these just in case

Sorry for late response, yes you can … which is an additional reason I chose this one (Extreme LED). With the SwitchPro I have the amber lights set to turn on as soon as the vehicle starts.

Recently on the trail, I backed onto a rock at the perfect spot. Pretty much crushed the end of my tail pipe. So I ordered a turndown on Amazon and cut the tail pipe 2ish" away from the hanger. Then installed this. It'll do for now

3rd oil change on my 4R yesterday @ 13,400 miles, first one by me. Mobile 1 0W20, Wix filter (which looked exactly like the one removed) & new drain plug gasket. Went off mostly without a hitch (managed to kick over an open quart bottle of oil, necessitating one more trip to the auto parts store ). Maybe in 6 months I’ll feel different, but I don’t plan to do this myself again. It just made a big mess no matter how careful I was. I suppose a Fumoto-type valve would prevent a lot of mess.

The one bright spot was the Amazon filter housing drain tool worked like a charm, along with the filter housing wrench, also from Amazon.

1st time is always messy til you figure out what works best. I don't make any messes anymore on oil changes. 5th gen is a pita to change but do it enough and it gets easier.

Not today but last month in prep for several weeks out in the desert...

I figured out a way to use the cargo cover with Molle panels.
    Molle_Panels_and_Cover.jpg

Out with the old (basket), in with the new (Slimline).
    Basket_off.jpg

Yeah, I really did install this by myself in the hotel parking lot!
    slimeline_installed.jpg

Installed Roam box with quick releases and a nice 270º awning too.

OK, now I really washed it. I wasn't happy with what $8 of quarters at the local self-wash did for me, so I picked up some supplies at Auto Zone and did it right at home. That included going up on front ramps and spraying down thoroughly underneath. I like how well the wheel cleaner worked, despite having to do a lot of hand work on it.

On a related note, my wife was so freaked out by handful of rock impact sounds she heard when we were wheeling that she got down on the creeper and had a peek while it was still on the ramps. She couldn't believe that there were no visible signs of damage.

First major mod some KO2s. I stayed with stock size 265 for now although I think I could have cleared 285 with stock rims. I didn’t want to worry about rubbing or chopping just yet, that’s for the future.IMG_0222.jpg

    Too much crap
Your post reminded me I really needed to replace my cabin filter, thanks. It was way worse than I thought though, LOL. It's been 25k miles since I last changed it. Had to run around to a few places to get a good Fram, went with the same one you got

How about shocks? Did you install identical replacements for the ones that leaked?

Same shocks but I did install the Perry Parts 3D Printed bump stops. No noticeable change in ride between the new shocks and bump stops. But we just did some forest roads, so nothing crazy. Real test will be in two weeks when we do the Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route.
