I bought front and rear bilstein 5100s for my 2022 4×4 4runner limited. I took the four shocks to my local Toyota dealer and below is the price they quoted me. I think they plan to leave the xreas system and run a new line of some sort? Does this look about right for the job? Using the oem springs.

    Thanks. 20230902_182639.jpg 20230902_182505.jpg

They want $1240 to install 4 5100s? If so then no that is not a good price or anywhere near it.

sounds like they don’t know what they are estimating or they gave you the “we really don’t want to do it but if we have to we are going to use sand price”.

Is there a 4x4 shop in your area? That price sounds high to me too.

Do some more research to see what other options are available.

    Good luck!

    That is a rip off.
I have gotten quotes ranging from 550 to 950 from independent garages for replacing Eibach shocks in the front, OEM shocks in the rear, front and rear sway bar links, outer/inner tie rods and sway bar bushings front/rear.

Find an independent garage that knows what they doing and you ll save and get quality work.

Not sure where you are located but had my springs and shocks replaced for that price.

I don't have XREAS but have KDSS

Looks like they are $155 an hour and plan on removing Xreas but leaving the lines in place. So nice of them to bill for that option. I would suggest you steer clear of that dealer and direct yourself to a local off road or performance shop in you general area with experience with 5th Gen 4Runners.

For the sake of conversation, I am not knocking the Dealer, But..... Dang. Try and not make it so obvious you are going for blood..

Wanted to give some in site as to when I was a Dealer Tech... This would have been called, Crush, Kill, Destroy on the front line back in my day.

Will be available to answer Dealership scheme questions if required.... Hold no loyalty at this point in my life.

    The dude abides!

Why are they messing with KDSS system? Go somewhere else and never go back.

Oh gotcha. Not familiar obviously. Why would they need to remove that system?

I think they charge 1240 because the hourly rate is high with Toyota Dealership.
Here in CO till 2020 normal lift install cost is about $750ish and another $100ish to remove XREAS. Labor won't change where it's $400 Bilstien5100 or $4000ELKA. Prices might have increased due to inflation now I guess.

With my experience Toyota dealerships don't have much skill and knowledge in aftermarket suspension install. Normally Toyota dealerships do spacer lifts to new purchases and generally their skill level ends there. Vs here on CO couple of Toyota specialist 4x4shops near my house have by far more capability and knowledge. Key word is "Toyota specialist 4x4shops". Generic shops that lift Jeeps and Fords and other brands may not have skill to work with XREAS and KDSS. I don't want to go through hassle for Christmas lights on dash. Even though you have XREAS which is relatively a trouble free system to remove and install lift.

On a side note, to my taste you will be compromising on road comfort a little bit my lifting and Installing aftermarket suspension.

To each his own, but I am curious as to why you are replacing the XREAS so soon.

This is a great question. Unless your doing a lift, I would use the XREAS until it start leakiing.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I've found a good local 4x4 shop with toyota experience. I want to replace the shocks because the nose dive and swaying when moving at speed are just annoying. I'm okay with a little rougher ride as a trade off.

Are your shocks leaking? Are you hair trying to get a little lift? I don’t think the 5100s are going to handle better then the XREAS system. I would think they would be worse. I have a SR5 and a limited. There is a night and day difference between the two.

Would you consider looking at a TRD Offroad with KDSS or a Lexus GX460 for having the same fulltime 4WD with KDSS to avoid swaying when moving at speed. If possible test drive and see before modifying your 2022 Limited which more likely you will get good amount of money if you trade in stock.

I have never had any sway when I had my Limited. Check alignment and tire pressure because you may end up with the same results after the suspension swap.

I have the swap. 5100s have less nose dive, less roll, less comfort. The 5100s are not built for comfort for sure.

Yikes! I had Elka 2.5 DC's installed with new bump stops, rear diff breather, rear Toytech springs, front fender trim to accommodate 33's and SPC UCA's done along with alignment in one day for $1000. Stick with the 4x4 shop route and only go to dealer for recall items and free oil changes.
