It seems like they improve slightly over the first 1000 miles or so.

What kind of driving are you doing? They guzzle gas at higher speeds (80+ MPH).

Come on now. If your going to be complaining about the gas mileage why did you buy one. Time to sell it or drive it like you stole it. Lol.

I did my research before buying and knew the mileage was not going to be good so I am ok with it. I expected it out of a vehicle that size.

Once everyone has an ev their should be a surplus of gas driving down the price :)

Something to keep in mind is that corporations, like government, look at consumers/people through the lens of statistics. If the average American only keeps their vehicles for 8 years and maybe 100k miles, then producing a vehicle that can last 200-300k+ mostly trouble free miles isn't worth the investment. Plus, with less used cars on the market, more people will be looking at new.

Believe me, I'm with you on how the market steers people. I want a non-smart TV, a non-connected thermostat, an analogue washing machine/appliance made with robust parts, wood that doesn't warp 5 seconds after unloading it, electronics without bloatware or built in data collection, etc etc (old man rant).

Government may be a small part of it, but the almighty dollar is definitely the main driver behind the reduced quality of most "affordable" products these days.

Yup, Sadly the buy it for life attitude is far and few. Most people want a "deal" which invariably means cheaper.

A case study would be cool. My guess is that if the turbo I4 was cheaper than the V8, it would be the best seller. BUT that's from my perspective living in Virginia, which is one the states with the highest numbers of 4Rs (as of 2019). I'd say 95% of them are stock and used as daily drivers and family haulers.

That would be interesting for sure!

I think the turbo 4 would sell a lot due to better estimated fuel economy. But, I would think a lot of the enthusiast crowd would go for the V8 just for the perception of better reliability.

Personally, if the turbo 4 was unproven, I might lean towards the V8. But, say it was a few years in to production and the four cylinder was performing well, I might lean towards the four cylinder.

My '18 Tundra can use fogs with either parking lights or headlights on.
No idea why they don't allow it on other models.

there may be way to program fogs only in the “deep”-for purchase after market programers-dx tools

Most people will tolerate mid-high teens from a v6, but you start pushing 12-13 (which is really not hard to do in the runner of you’re in constant stop and go), you thinking to you’re self, I could be ripping a 5.7 Tundra for this.

When I had my 2020 AG Pro I had 285’s on it and I was getting around the same as my 21 tundra Pro. I gave up the tundra because of the size of the truck and not the gas. It was more of a pain just to drive that big truck around where I did not need it. Gas was never the reason.

I know there are a ton of variables, but I'm always surprised by the spread in MPG's experienced by 4Runner owners. I can easily hit 20-21 on freeway trips in my '22 (stock besides Toyo AT3's (265/70)) and high teens around town. Freeways around here have 55/65MPH speed limits though.

I don't foresee much of an MPG boost going to the turbo I4. Just look at the new GX: 1MPG increase by going from the 460 to the TTV6.

I think the two biggest variables are weight and driving habits, with terrain a bit back in third place. I added load E Wildpeaks and I still get 20.5 on the highway, but I don't have much other weight and I stay under 75 mph. It's moderately hilly here.

For highway driving, wind resistance is a bigger factor than weight. From what I've found, driving habits are #1.

I agree in general, but I didn't think wind resistance varied as much between 4R setups as the other factors.

Oh, I guess between different trims is what you meant. I misunderstood, sorry. But, I would still think that trims that come with roof racks are going to get the worst mileage out of the bunch.:notsure:

Then I'd say they'll be money well spent. :D

Victory makes a good looking plate bumper for the front. I haven't looked at many full bumpers, so I can't recommend much. But, I'd say to pay attention to weight, and what cutting you'll have to do to install them.

Are you looking for a swing out tire carrier? Or, any specific accessories for the rear?

pretty much just looking for the most effective for the least amount of work for both front and rear. If it requires a good amount of work it’s worth it but more of a function over form guy.

@Stoney Ranger just recently installed a very cool minimalist rear bumper on his, but I forget the brand.

It's going to be a rabbit hole of googling, I think.
