Kind of weighing my options here but the wife and I have 1 kiddo (20 months) and another on the way. The 4th gen is still a good vehicle for us until I think about loading it up to go camping, space quickly runs out. The 4runner is getting kind of up there in miles (223k) but it would be reliable for many more years. It's got power and is easy to drive around town, love it.

For doing truck stuff, I've always thought I'd need a bed until I saw recently that people turn M416 military trailers into camp/general utility trailers which is pretty intriguing for the current situation and probably the most cost effective.

Or do I jump ship and get a crew max Tundra? Downsides are its going to be more expensive up front and its a bigger vehicle to drive daily but will ultimately last us a much longer time and I won't have to deal with hooking up a trailer any time I need to do truck stuff/go camping.

    What say ye?

I'd keep the 4runner and get a trailer. Unless you really want a Tundra.

I’d go a different direction. Sell your 4Runner, buy a larger SUV (Sequoia/Expedition/Suburban size) and then when you are out of that stage of life sell the behemoth and return to the 4Runner.

I would do anything you can to keep the 4Runner you have, soon it will be one of the last of its kind. But with an extra kid its not a bad idea to upgrade size. May be a good idea to buy a used Tundra rather than go new, something 2019 and older.

I have seen a few 4Runners pull teardrops but for a family of 4 its a little small.

Sequoia might be able to fit more camping gear but still limited on doing "truck stuff." I do like Sequoias though

Would definitely buy a used Tundra, not new. Need that V8 reliability, plus they look a million times better.
