Do you wave at other 4Runners?

I've started waving at other modified 4runners - haven't gotten one back. There was another thread years ago when I bought mine and people said that waving wasn't a thing except that sometimes modified 4runners wave to each other and sometimes jeep will wave.

Fast forward to after I modified, I passed a seemingly stock 4runner and the owner looked excited and waved. I remember not being able to throw my hand up in time (was probably scratching my butt or something) and then felt bad. So now I wave to modifieds and watch the stocks - will wave back if they initiate

Sold a Wrangle when I purchased the ORP.
Glad to be done with that community expectation. Let’s NOT go there please.

I had someone stop me in the parking lot the other day and ask me how I liked my 4runner. They were a photographer who's used wranglers to get to places for photographs but said they were tired of it always being worked on.

Told them I love it, especially the reliability compared to my '14 JGC. Told them to check out this forum for info because I knew there were other converts

My ‘11 didn’t give me a lick of trouble until the torque converter crapped last year at 90k miles. I can’t complain about that. But can’t say the future felt bright with the build quality.
I did enjoy it a lot, but the 4runner is definitely a an improvement in almost every area that I care about. No regrets.

I could see if we were driving 68 Mustangs or something like that, that was rare, but every 5th vehicle on the road is a 4Runner. One exception for me is every now and then I'll see a nice 3rd or 4th gen Runner so I'll give the driver a nod. The topic seems to come up here a couple times a year, but I don't get it.

4Runners are ubiquitous. Well over 1.6 million 4Runners have been sold in the US since 2005. Wave at another 4Runner? They're everywhere.

Pretty sure Wranglers have outsold 4Runner since 2005. They are everywhere too.

The 4Runner has an amazing presence. When you stop next to a BMW X5 or Audi Q5, they feel the 4Runner's presence. By far the most badass SUV in production right now. I am loving it. It yells old and cool.
When it is cold and you fire up that 4.0L, it is amazing. Noisy and cool.

No. I didn’t do the “wave” when I owned a Jeep either. Get off my lawn.

Good point. So why are they waving at each other? Do Camry drivers wave at each other too? Maybe we're all waving at each other. That would be nice.

I don’t wave or get waved at. Morgan on the other hand. When she’s anywhere with the 4Runner, especially gas stations, guys always have something they need to ask about the 4R

Jeep Wave has a long history dating back to WWII. Soldiers in Jeeps waved at fellow soldiers. And then when those vets came home, they bought Civilian Jeeps and kept that tradition of waving. It is cool. Jeep is cool. Jeep started it all. Too bad their quality went down after the TJ, and they also became overpriced and complicated. Jeeps used to be simple and inexpensive, that's what an offroader should be. Same crap happened to the Landcruiser, it turned into some behemoth that costs as much as a house. At least the Landcruiser kept its dependability and durability though.

Heavily modded 4Runner owners seem to wave to other heavily modded 4Runner owners. I have gotten a few now and then.

People also pay Jeep tax today. Jeep tax is 100% of Jeep's actual worth. Jeep's worth + 100% Jeep tax = Sticker price. Some dealers mark them up too.

Moderately moded 4Runners sometimes get a nod or lights flash from me. Too many stock 4R in KC area driven by soccer moms and dads who don't care and as mentioned before by Ripper "heavily modded" rigs get a wave which puts me outside of that category, therefore I don't bother with big dogs.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Nope, but I’ll chat with other owners in gas stations/parking lots.

When I drove old Series IIa Land Rovers we always waved at each other. I bet humans riding similar horses would wave to each other when passing. I was once dating a six foot blonde model and when I passed another guy with a six foot tall blonde model we kind of looked at each other and he waved and then I waved and the ladies smiled.

With our Cherokee, the jeep tax was (for one year): Cost (Used at dealer) + cost of repairs (100%).

I tried to wave a while back with little response, now our town is full of them, largely "soccer moms". Makes sense here in the Cascade foothills with 4+ months of snow most years. Seem to be overtaking the Wrangeler-ish Jyps! Ravs and Subarus are likely the most popular cars (Wife has a RAV). People do stop and look at the "Beast" in parking lots but usually elsewhere (out-of-town). More and more "modded" ones around!

All I know is that my wife had a "bucket list" item to have a Jeep. We will NEVER move away from Toyotas again! We can't afford a Jeep, even if you GAVE it to me!
Worst of the over 1 dozen brands of 4WDs I've owned or driven for work!

Sorry to some of you out there but I don't wave at Limited's.

Other than that I wave like a crazy person to 4Runners maybe half the time when im in a good mood. And pretty much never get a wave back unless they think they might know who is waving at them then realize they have no idea who I am and get a concerned look on their face. It's become a joke with my wife.

My wife on the other hand gets waved at when she's alone she tells me.

I do ride motorcycles and that wave is standard practice for everyone. The only people who don't do it are people who don't ride much and don't know or douche bags.

This thread is hilarious, funny to hear what ya'll experience. I'd be pissed if someone put a duck on my 4R, or a dildo like them Jeep dudes like.
In Vancouver and down the river in my Fraser Valley, there's 4R's and Tacoma's everywhere, very popular. I usually stare in angry jealousy when I see one more modded than mine.

The wife and I get honked at quite a bit, but that's cuz my tags say Honk If You Love Honky Tonk
