What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

I told them as much, he assured me they didn't do it. I mean even if they used the good stuff, it would have been $50 a material plus whatever they paid minimum wage now. It's probably just really good condition paint.

Got the jack and stands from Harbor Freight.

 

Too bad they don't do the 20% off coupons like they used to. I think whenever they do them now, they exclude the Daytona jacks.

 

I called my salesman about the water beading. They use a wash and wax when they wash the cars. There is a polymer that provides the "protection." To do my coating, I'll add in a step of an isopropyl alcohol wipe down.

 

Just picked the jacks and the stands up.

Not sure if your dealership operates the same way or not as mine but, my salesman said that all the protections are applied when the dealership receives the vehicles, when you buy the protection you’re paying for the warranty. They tried selling us on the paint, windshield and interior coverages. When we declined he filled us in on that tidbit of information.

 

At one point I thought that was the case. When I bought my 2014 magnetic gray metallic, that's how they pitched it. It had a protective coating but I was losing the warranty. I washed it with Meguiars and all of the WD-40 came off. The clear coat peeling was bad on the roof.

Maybe this dealer's version of "paint protection" isn't ceramic or graphene coating. A jar of Smuckers strawberry jam could conceivably protect the paint from bird poop or intergalactic space rays.

After all of my decontamination and synthetic clay bar efforts, I will use some isopropyl alcohol spray.

 

Sold my Cali Raised Catalytic Converter Shields due to too much rattling. Used the cash for a few mods.

That sucks your cat shields were rattling. I have the RCI shields and haven't heard anything. Was it touching the exhaust?

 

Yeah, I got them in May. Easy install and they look great. But, the drivers side touches the heat shield of the Cat converter. There is a whole thread on this forum about hacks with longer screws and trimming the metal. I didn't want to deal with it.
In June I took my 4Runner to the Cali Raised here in Ca. They didn't have a solution. I guess, now they send longer screws and they "updated" it.... but 2 weeks ago I was emailed back no solution for me. So, I sold them. I figured, I take my chances until I find different ones.

I am looking at the RCI.

 

I thought the stock TRD skidplate only covered the engine area? Mine bolt onto their tranny skid I believe

Nothing yet....picking up my 2021 TRD Venture Wednesday.
Thinking first things will be, TRD Pro Roof Rack, Skid plate and a Gobi Ladder.

Till I finish undercarriage POR15 I kinda like seeing my rear axle for once - Truck din fit in the garage with tire on top of roof basket; strapped 'er in trunk

Am I crazy for declining stealership protection, and doing literally nothing since new 2016; I've got zero paint or rust issues, honestly, just dents from f*cking around.

 

Did that minimize the glare from the bulge? That's my first thought, that it would totally soften up that hot spot in your field of view.

 

Ceramic is just silicone protection on steroids. You're not missing much. I've got a few factors in why I'm so stressed about it. One is that I will not physically be able to maintain in the future as well as I would like. Another is that this car is going to one of my kids, so protecting it as best I can is important. The last thing is the history of white cars in my family with the Toyota paint problem. This is the fourth 040 colored Toyota, in addition to staining, peeling is in the back of my head.

Clayed the whole 4 runner then lay down some good protective coatings Glaze,Sealant and Wax...... I only did from the front doors forward
