How wide can stock 4Runner go with tires?

    Don’t get that model of the KO2 unless you’re ok with a very rough ride and possible balancing issues.

    Good catch -- those are the E rated tires. There's a C rated version as well that will be a bit less punishing.

    Personally, I have the C rated ones in the stock size - it's still a firmer ride than stock at the appropriate air pressure.

    Are you willing to trim some plastic?

    285's Will almost certainly rub on some plastic. But, with a good alignment, it should be easy to clear.

    Lift does not clear tires anyway. It just hides the rubbing.

    Then stick to a 265/70/17.

    Most 275 only come in LT load ranges. If you're going to go with that anyway, then go for it. But, otherwise it's not worth it for the extra quarter inch of clearance.

    You don’t need new tires, you need new wheels. 17x9s are the widest you can go on 10.50s and have it look decent. Had that same setup on a previous 1st gen Tacoma.

    Any version will perform fine. You'll get more puncture resistance with a heavier load range, though. It depends on what kind of terrain you're going to be in.

    Are you going to get a shop to do the install? If you're having a somewhat offroad shop installing anyways, they'll likely trim it for you quick as part of the install. My shop tested turning, rubbed a bit and they Dremel cut a small sliver under the bumper you don't even see.
    Food for thought if you actually want the look of 285 or perhaps even 275. Depending on the alignment, you might rub while turning in reverse if you move up in size, regardless. Don't be scared of a small trim or fender liner adjustment.

    That's what I have.

    You'll definitely need to go up in tire pressure. I'm probably going to end up around 44psi. BFG's help folks will tell you 50 even though that's the cold inflation max.

    The ride is going to be firmer than stock, FYI.

    I had those exact tires for around 29K miles.

    44 PSI is the recommended inflation for that size and load range on our 4Runners. However, I ran mine at 35 with good results. They were all at 12/32 when I replaced them, and they were on my buddy's Ford Ranger for 3 years after that.

    I have 33.5's, with a BMC, viper cut, and no mud flaps, and they rub on the firewall on a good hump.

    Fitting 35's is a commitment. You're bashing the firewall and pinch welds with a hammer, cutting plastic and metal, and probably still rubbing at full lock and stuffed.

    Aside from that, a re-gear is basically a given if you are going that big with tires.

    44 cold you mean? Cuz with 39 cold after driving for a while I do get to 42.

    Always cold. Tire pressure is never measured warm.

    I run 38 PSI (cold) in 6 ply BFG KO2's but I don't carry any extra weight. (No aftermarket bumpers, winches, sliders or roof racks) I go to a very reputable tire shop that knows how to use a Road Force balancer properly. Absolutely zero vibrations.

    I just wanted to make sure. These are some high numbers, because the sticker on my 4Runner recommends 32.

    The door jamb sticker is for OEM "P" rated tires. You are now using "LT" tires. Totally different.

    LT tires are designed to run at higher pressure. Even my 295's call for 35 PSI.

    But, not everyone goes by the charts. If you're getting a rough ride, or uneven wear, a slightly lower pressure is probably fine. My KO2's wore beautifully at 35. This was before I bolted on a few hundred extra lbs, though.

    But with 44 there is no way I can drive on the trail, I need to be airing down, Chiropractic adjustments are not cheap.
