Yeah, no doubt a lot of people were disappointed with the fake Atkinson cycle 2GR-FKS. The big difference is that it made peak torque at 4600 RPM's, and, based on what you describe, not a whole lot of low RPM torque at all. Meanwhile, the incoming turbo 4 is making peak torque at 1700 RPM's already. So, theoretically, it should be a huge improvement, even over the 1GR.

Of course, that's just what it says on paper. I'm hoping that the driving experience will do justice to the specs.

Also, the actual fuel economy will surely depend on driving habits. So, I'm sure it will get mixed reviews.

The color pictured does look pretty awful. I have seen a few of them that I thought looked pretty good. But, I'm looking at as what it is, which is a crossover, not a truck. If you're looking for something rugged, this definitely isn't it.

I actually think the big Bronco is ugly as well.

Thing is, the fuel economy is not going to be that much better. Look at the 3.5 Ecoboost vs the 5.0, almost the same real world (heck, the 3.5EB gets worse mpg when towing...but again not by much). Look at the previous gen Tundra vs new...window sticker shows 5mpg gain, my buddy had a 2020, has a 2023, real world he sees a 1mpg difference. It takes fuel to make power.

You get power OR mpg but not both at the same time...

Funny thing about that 2nd to 3rd gen Tacoma engine change...yeah, it made more power but about the same amount of torque...so it had to rev higher to make that power. Not exactly what you want in a truck.

OK, that's a Ford Escape with a different body. Never should have been called a 'Bronco' anything (and the Mach-E never should have been called a 'Mustang' anything.) I'd take a Bronco but not a Bronco Sport.

People will pass on the GX and buy the Bronco because 'removable roof'. As for it having all the necessary tools, it won't be more capable than the Bronco and it will have much worse aftermarket support (it will be more reliable but most people don't own vehicles long enough for that to be a big factor). I mean, people buy Wranglers and those are less reliable than Broncos...

According Fuelly.com, It looks like the average went up about 2-2.5 mpg. Also, there are a significant number of new tundra's averaging 20 MPG or better. On the other hand, literally not one vehicle is averaging over 19 with the V8.

As I already mentioned, it is going to come down to driving style. Some people might not see an increase. Some people might even see a decrease. But, some people will see a significant increase.

Wrangler's 3.6L Pentastar V6 and the 8 spd ZF automatic transmission are very reliable if you take care of them. Mechanically Jeep is pretty solid. Jeep's achilles heel is the electronics. Under Stellanis, it is even worse now.

    You're not different.

I don't know how much more I can stress this, but I've said repeatedly that I'd prefer more power and better fuel economy, if everything else is equal. If I have to trade one for the other, I'll take reliability. That's why I'm on a Toyota forum.

If you were owner of an old GX with the 4.7, you would like the new 3.4 turbocharged GX. It is way more powerful, and you also get a whopping 1 mpg more.

I had an '03 4Runner with the 4.7. that was such a great engine! Torque right from idle, and didn't really get bad mileage.

The new GX does look very nice to me.

Most people HATE the 3.6 Pentastar, but it's everything they like: naturally aspirated V6. My parents have one in their Jeep and it's given them no problems (knock on wood), but it only has 50k miles. Some mechanics online swear that engine gets cracked heads though, and the plastic oil cooler is a terrible feature. But just you watch, all these people will come out of the woodwork saying they always loved the Pentastar when Jeep replaces it with a turbo I4.

The Care Care Nut has a video on the T24A (the engine that is used in the new Taco and likely 4runner) which everyone should watch if their going to speculate. Owning a 4 cylinder 4runner myself, I'm less concerned losing the V6 because I'm more aware of the benefits of an I4 than the average V6/V8 owner. Sure it has a turbo, but if it's well designed it will last. And TCC said the turbo was fairly easy to remove, so if you purchase a used 4runner from a bad owner you should be able to replace it.

There isn't much to talk about with the 5th gen, so I'm not surprised this thread devolved into 6th gen speculation. If it has a 2024 model, it'll probably be another TRD limited addition non-metallic color. Toyota isn't going to refresh this vehicle while they're working on a replacement.

Also good fuel economy =/= low emissions. Those two things are not the same, a vehicle can get 30 MPG but pollute a lot.

My Pentastar Grand Cherokee has over 150,000 miles on it, and purrs like brand new. I put it on Pennzoil Ultra Platinum from day 1. It is a solid motor.

But I am liking this 4.0L on my 4Runner. It has more personality than the Pentastar. It is loud and I love it. I can get away with telling people I have a V8 lol. I can't wait when the break in period is over and I floor it.

I was always pretty impressed with how mine moved when it was still stock. Of course, it's probably a dog compared to most sedans. But, I was never disappointed with the passing power.

Well going back to a 4runner after selling my 21 tundra Pro I will notice the power difference. Lol. Not worried about it. If I was I would not be buying another 4runner. My C7 Z06 is my beast for power if I need to let it hang out. Lol. 4runner gets me to point A and B. Lol.

Looks like you need Tundra's SUV version, the 200 series. Get one before it costs two houses, right now it costs only one house lol.

best time to buy it was probably 2014-2020? The same exact vehicle easily now costs 10K+ since they decided to skip US. Maybe things get better once new LC hits who knows.
And if you can tolerate the looks, I'd say LX is a better deal and a bargain in used car segment compared to LC. The LC name badge itself is so expensive.

New LC has a teeny tiny Camry powertrain lol. It is not gonna affect 200 LC's value a tiny bit. I am a displacement guy. These guys can never impress me with hybrids and turbos.

Folks, I've been getting Dodge Viper level fuel economy in my 4Runner lol. Is it going to get a little better after a couple of thousand miles?

The SUV version of a Tundra is the Sequoia lol. Despite both having a V8, the Land Cruiser had nicer components than the Tundra/Sequoia.

My friends family growing up had a 1st gen Sequoia, it was still a reliable vehicle. And the Sequoia had the roll down rear window like a 4runner, something missing on all Land Cruisers. Costs less too, everyone forgets about the Sequoia having a V8. The 1st gen would be my choice since it has a solid rear axle and looks better.

Yes you are right, the Land Cruiser is different than the tundra and sequoia, it's made in Japan and it's also overbuilt. But hey, it is still a truck, so you can say it is a SUV version of the tundra lol.

My 3 choices have always been Tacomas since 80 and after having a few switched 4runner Pro and then 21 tundra Pro. I have no where to go but to go back to the 4runner which I favor over all 3. I have my own reasoning why I like the 4runner over the other 2.

New? I feel like mine has slightly improved after 1k miles, but not a lot. Air up your tires, coast and drive under 60 as much as possible.
