It could have left the Tahara plant in perfect condition then damaged somewhere in transport. It would be repaired before it’s released from the port. This happens more frequently than we know of.

That’s a good point. I hadn’t thought of that. I would like to believe that’s what happened because it’s hard to believe a high quality plant would let that out.

Sorry to see this. I remember reading rough things about white back in 2020 and I have no idea if ice cap is just a new name or different paint.

I had xpel put on my front end mirrors and hood. Overall I like it but admit it’s not perfect. I found a small mirror Knick this week that my xpel dealer tells me is in the film. With warm water some came out.

Unfortunately I think no matter how hard we try something is going to get us. Your paint issue should not be like that from the factory though for sure. I’d expect that on Ford product not a toyota especially from Japan. Maybe they are getting lazier like the Detroit 3 though who knows. Best wishes with the fix

I'm not sure where you live, but where I live, what you state is not true. In fact, I had the right portion of the front bumper cover on my 2021 Super White SR5 Premium repaired and blended perfectly by a local shop recently. And yes, I'm super picky. I detail cars part time and worked in the metal finishing business for over 20 years.

The factory doesn't use special "factory formula" paint because there are a relatively small number of paint manufacturers in the world. Yes, a collision shop may use a different paint manufacturer, but that doesn't mean it won't match. Paint mixing / matching technology has gotten much, much better in the last 10 years. Couple this with experienced painters who can match even using "old school" methods and I'd say the chances of blending that in so you can't tell the difference is pretty good if you find the right shop.

Blending may be a dying art, but it's not because the chemicals are no longer available. (Solvent based paints are what is hard to come by.) The reason the art is dying is that insurance companies don't want to pay for this kind of work. They'd rather paint a whole panel and hope the color matching is close enough that the average customer doesn't notice.

    Where one lives doesn't matter.
So you had a scratch or dent repaired. It was sanded, primed and painted. They didn't use a cutoff line. So they applied fresh paint over an unsanded smooth surface. That will be your failure point.
I didn't say the factory uses a 'special' paint. They use their formula only. It is not available to wholesale or the general public.
I don't give a fuck what an Ins. Co. does. If I have any of my trail tags repaired, they (the body shop) will repaint the whole panel.

    You do you.

possibly yes i can only speak to the black color. it shows water spots like a mofo on the hood but as far as durability goes it seems pretty solid so far.

Yeah a collision guy I know told me Insurnace co don’t want to pay them to blend the paint and make it look better. The blend takes away from your eye that color change the Insurnace co only wants to pay to slepp the paint on there damned me how it looks.

For smaller jobs I just pay him cash to do it right. It’s like everything else in life cheapen it up and people doing things half ass.

We don't know if it came out of Takara that way. All we know is that OP claims it's under the clear coat.

Ask a detailer about ceramic coating too. I'd imagine it has some degree of stain resistance. Would be much cheaper than installing PPF on the whole vehicle.
