Alright so i have an 01 4runner, it has a remote start in it that has its own remote. I really only use that remote but i do have an “aftermarket” remote that i have set up just like the factory ones (the original broke)…. anyway, i really only use the remote start remote to lock/unlock. Tonight i used the “factory” remote to lock it and it did its normal light flash and beep.

I walked away from the vehicle and it kept beeping, the further i got the more it beeped. Took it for a drive around the block and it kept doing it…

    Any ideas?

Once in a while the key fob (remote) on my 4Runner would lose its mind and the car would start flashing/beeping ...etc. When this happened, the key fob became dysfunctional. Removing the key fob battery reset the unit and all becomes OK again. Replacing the key fob battery did not solve the issue. I eventually switched to the backup key fob and the issue has not risen yet.

Interesting… Do you have the original key fob or aftermarket?

If the system is aftermarket it’s probably your issue. I see all the time, they’ll go on the fritz and do all kinds of stuff.

I had this happen. I had been using the original one and after 21 years, it would just set off the factory panic alarm randomly. New battery didn't fix it. Bought a replacement and no more issues.
