What is in everyone's off road kit? Do you bring overnight gear-shelter, blankets, etc? Starting to build mine up and was curious what you carry.

Good call. I just bought a nice tire plug kit but included it in my mind with tools. I have both CO2 tank and cheaper emergency compressor.

The list is excessively long since my off roading I consider more like overlanding, so I wont list everything.

Full tool kit, wrenches, sockets, pry bar, vice grips, screw drivers, Air compressor, tire repair kit, tow straps, D rings, duct tape.....

Paramedic bag from dental, to wound clotting and even a chest seal. Plus some medication from aspirin to Imodium and....

Get home bag with emergency clothes, jump batt pack, rope, water purification, freeze dried food, tarp, knives, flashlight backups and batteries....

Then I have all my other items I need like cloths for the time period, MSR stove, fresh/dried food, Fuel, cooler, tarp, tent, axe, Sheath knife, flashlight, 20l jerry can with water, sleeping bag & pad.....

One more item I forgot. JumpnCarry to jump start dead battery. I am the type of guy who plans for worst trying to have anything I would need. Wife is always asking me why all this stuff is needed to take on road trips with a new truck. Just in case....

Out of curiosity with dynamic weight in the rear with all the stuff we pack up. Are you guys running heavy springs to handle incremental weight or letting some positive rake handle it.

So far I haven't wanted to go heavy springs and have harsher ride daily when empty. Maybe that's the right solution don't know.

Tire inflator, recovery "stuff", GOOD First Aid kit, shovel, small ax, tools, CB radio (portable), knife, pistol case for California (about the ONLY place I am not licensed to carry!), back-up maps, 2 US GI wool blankets. Anything I might need for the immediate future.

    Edit: TP, paper towels.

All our vehicles carry knives, flashlights and extinguishers, tire inflators. You never know here in the PNW what you might need,

Oh, on longer trips to National Parks, we also take bear spray.

A Glock 27 converted to 357 Sig wherever I am licensed to carry (about 30-35 states now). Wife's Glock 9mm.

I keep a very basic set up in the back: small tool kit, shovel, flash light, and first aid kit which all fit in the stock storage space on the right, and then water, protein containing food, and blankets kept in the seats so the dogs (who are normally in the back) won’t chew those.

I'm letting some of the stock positive rake handle it. Its a few hundred pounds and rides off road well with it all. I even have a roof top box and its fine. Though I will likely need to replace my shocks sooner rather than later. My issue is I load a little heavy on the drivers side, but it is what it is.

Nice. Where did you find wool blankets? These seem to be hard to come by. Lots of cheap junk 'wool' blankets out there.

I haven't looked for years since I have about 6 of them. Good wool gear I expect to be expensive but no idea what market rate is now.

Don't really off-road - but I do keep some basic stuff in the back all the time: Air compressor that will run off the 120V outlet in the back, NOCO battery jump starter + backup jumper cables, small tool set (stubby socket set, wrenches, pliers, drivers), shovels (folding entrenching tool and a portable snow shovel), hatchet with flat/hammer back, a good sharp/sturdy knife, blanket, flashlight, first aid kit, small backpack with some stuff in it (compass, can opener, very basic utensils, water purification pills, etc...) + a few other things I'm probably forgetting.

Just fuses, headlight hi/low bulbs and an extra oil filter kit. If I was rock crawling and my vehicle was older I may bring more.

Oil changes. The darn thing is plastic and not a normal filter so you never know if a shop will have it if I am out on the road.

I got a few Korean War era wool Army blankets when I was in college. I've carried at least one in the back of all my cars for the last 40 years.

Not to long ago my wife was in a cleaning/down sizing spree and told me we don't need all those wool army blankets. I won the debate even if she didn't get it why they were important or the value they provide in an emergency.

Also a roll of toilet paper. As evidenced by the panic buying to kick off the pandemic, it’s something you do not want to be in need of and not have.

That's a good dual purpose idea I never thought of.

I usually have paper towels always in truck. Either a roll or handful of folded from gas station. Trash bag too when traveling or off road.

Wife and I volunteered at a Veterans Event for homeless vets. We were told to pick one item to take home, then I was told to take a second because I was a vet. End of the day, they were giving away all kinds of stuff. They had big (8x8x5') crates of them for the taking. I think we took 2. We got new GI -30F sleeping bag systems for our "thank you gifts", wool glove inserts, and a couple of duffels, camo netting and two new bivouac covers. The sponsors just didn't want to pack it back up. Much of it was new in the package!
