Maybe bumper to bumper qualifies as idling or low speed. But it wouldn’t count as severe service unless it was a majority of your driving.

Most congested cities in the US.
    1. Chicago
    2. Boston
    3. New York City
    4. Philadelphia
    5. Miami
    6. Los Angeles
    7. San Francisco
    8. Washington, D.C.
    9. Houston
    10. Atlanta
I live in Los Angeles, and even I couldn’t say that a majority of my time is spent idling or at slow speed. Do you really spend a majority of your time behind the wheel in bumper to bumper traffic? Do you really believe that “most everyone on here” spends a majority of their driving time in bumper to bumper traffic?

You’re right everyone on here is good to go at 10k just like their transmission never ever needs a fluid change because it’s sealed for life because the engineers said so.

On a related note, the 2023 Warranty & Maintenance Guide says on Page 37 that you should lube the propeller shaft after EVERY DAY of off-roading. I don't think I've seen anyone on this forum mention doing that, and I doubt that's because everyone thinks it's so important that they would never even consider skipping it.

Come on man. We only follow the 10k oil change because the engineers said so. For everything else they can bite a big one and we do what we want.

    Wrong.

Oil change interval was not listed in that thread, although there were other oil-related entries. This subject definitely qualifies for the list though.

The list is open for any and all entries. Some used the list thread title as an entry. Of course, they've already opened it to add to the list...

Are these severe duty guys torquing driveshaft bolts, lubing u joints, and tightening all bolts on chassis and body too?

Some people are just obsessed with the oil, but you never see threads on the other extra recommendations.

Like diff fluid: there is no recommended interval, so when does everyone change it?

Good thing the OP didn't ask about break-in oil changes! (Photo attached of my pearlescent oil at 899.)
    IMG_20230813_173353710_HDR.jpg

    1) international Toyota docs showed 6k mile oil changes as recent as 2018, if I recall correctly.

    2) extended interval oil changes have two influences in the USA... The EPA and Toyota marketing pinheads.

    3) Short trips tend to let gas vapor into the oil and it doesn't burn off. Gas breaks down oil. That's why the 6-month recommendation even if mileage isn't reached.

Checking and tightening bolts, definitely guilty of not doing that. But lubing the U joints I do regularly at every oil change since the front is on ramps and it's easy to get underneath.

65ft pounds... Hahaha... I know the number, but always elect against it while I'm underneath.

I service my oil once a year or 10K miles whichever occurs first. I use a high quality synthetic oil (Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum) since both products are formulated with high quality synthetics like Polyalphaolefins (PAO) and/or GTL base oils. I use to develop synthetics base oils for applications in engine oils (Mobil 1) and Aviation Turbine oils, so I have a lot of experience in the products ability to protect the hardware and offer excellent oxidative stability. I agree with many other posts indicating the type of driving has a big impact on service cycle.

was doing 10-12k intervals loooong before it was cool (ok from the early 1990s onward). never an issue and we tend to keep vehicles 7-10 years

I do what I want... at 5k. :crapstorm: Because I drive in the dirt, and the heat, and at high speeds, with a heavy truck. Seems like I am always trying to escape some moron that can't put their cell phone down while driving. I also do short trips of less than five minutes... And drive in heavy traffic (stop & go).

Yall do what you think is right.
