Hi everyone! I'm new to the page, but I wanted to get your opinions on going with a lift vs level for my 4runner. I would love a 2-3" raise on the vehicle, but I'm not necessarily looking for bigger tires (at least not right now). What are your opinions for going with blocks vs messing with suspension? Would it look dumb for me to get a 3" level and keep my same tires?

I don't plan on doing any crazy off-roading, other than driving in the woods for hunting season.

Here is me with 2.5" lift on stock wheels changing to stock size 265
AT tire. I think you will not be happy with street tires and lift but that's opinion and everyone is different. Your factory tires look better than my duelers.

And 1 more with some passengers and weight compressing lift.

Going bigger tires looks great but also adds performance implications. It's something I will eventually do just not ready yet to regear. Depends on how your using the truck if you can live with losing some power turning the bigger tires. I also think a factor is how much weight. Add on armor, full of passengers and gear....

My buddy has 285s and lifted and no issues but drives solo, no significant weight added or much gear with him when driving. Exact opposite of me.

After market suspension will ride better than spacer.

Would you mind sharing the lift that you went with? Your ride looks great now! My 4runner has 265s on it now - is that what you have on yours in the 1st pic?

I am running Elka's which are probably the most expensive shock out there and overkill for most. Yes all my pics are 265 stock size.

Middle pic is with factory Dueler street tires. Other 2 are same 265 but BFG AT KO. Your tires look like might already be a AT. At least they look a little more aggressive than pure street tire.

You can accomplish same thing as I have with many 2.5" lifts but cheaper options. Don't get me wrong I love the Elka's but also realize it's overkill for most.

I was looking hard at Dobinson lift kits before I went up to Elka. Dobinson's is a real good quality bang for the buck setup. Not trying to be evasive just don't want to turn this into a what's best thread people debating.

Anyone else please chime in on all the recommendations on solid 2.5" options.

    Common brands Bilstein, Eibach, OME....

Some good pics here different setups. Exitoffroad is also a site sponsor and very helpful resource on Dobinson's if you go that direction.

    Awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, my tires are AT 265s - that was part of the XP Predator package so I don't plan to change them. Don't want to mess with mpg at this point in time.

Any reason you went with a lift vs a level with struts or spacers? I guess you planned on more off-roading?

I do off road but also do a lot of highway driving and road trips. My setup was geared towards improving ride both on and off road. Little more lift helps me with extra weight like you can see in last pic some shock compression. I don't want to go with heavy duty springs handling extra weight until I have to like adding rear bumper. It's tough but really trying to find the right balance all my scenarios having an improved ride over stock.

Spacers are not going to ride as good but definitely cheapest way to gain lift if you can accept ride trade off.
