Now that the car market is becoming crap due to the high interest rates and crappy economy, have any of you folks been able to get discounts of any sorts on new 4Runner models??

I got a lunar rock ORP for 1,000 under msrp. Even with the market dropping it took a lot of searching and negotiating to lock one in under msrp. Even with the car market dropping 4Runners sell before even landing at the dealership. That of course is area dependent but in the Pacific Northwest they are still as desirable as ever.

No such luck here, but I did manage to get rid of almost all of the ridiculous add ons, and got them to come up on my trade thanks to CarMax.

Car Max does offer some sweet trade in values. The big question is will they deliver?..........the check I mean! :D

While shopping for my new Pro I found that rural dealers were generally at MSRP but had add-ons ranging from $1000-3000. The city dealers also had markups. The two that I negotiated with were willing to scratch the add-ons; the one I bought cut another grand. There’s even a dealer advertising below msrp but didn’t have what I wanted. So I think there’s something closer to reasonable than there had been.

The funny thing is, I have yet to have a dealer let me walk out to go sell my vehicle to CarMax.

Heck, one guy even said that his sales manager was going to make him ferry me too and from CarMax if they couldn’t match the offer.

those dealerships are following the classic car sales motto of “once we’ve got you in the door, we’ve got you”.
I find it best to negotiate and finalize your deal before you ever set foot on the dealer lot by email or phone. Never give the dealership home field advantage!

Way too high! About $6,000 over msrp of a brand new Trd pro.

I've gotten to the point where I can typically get an internet quality deal in person. I actually enjoy the back and forth.

I don’t mind the back and forth either but for less experienced buyers I recommend not negotiating at the dealer.

This is a good point. Dealers will wear down inexperienced and emotionally compromised buyers. Before they know it, they become payment buyers.

There are dealers out there that will sell at invoice without any haggling for non-Pro models.

Bought the wife a runner a couple weeks ago. They had a new '23 SR5 Premium 2WD in barc red at sticker, and they weren't budging. Luckily, they had a used '23 SR5 Premium in the same color in 4WD w/ 14k miles asking 5k less than the new 2WD. We agreed on a price and bought it. My daily is a 3rd gen taco, which I love. Needless to say, we're both super happy with the runner. Glad we nabbed the 4.0 before they go extinct.

You found a Pro for under msrp, do you mind sharing where? I felt lucky to grab an incoming one for msrp, most were + 5-10k.

My TRD Pro should be in any day.. S/E Michigan and I am going to be at MSRP, no add ons... Michigan allows for a $230 doc (bullsh!t) fee which I guess is better than many states. I believe that the dealer has 2 more white Pros coming in that are not spoken for. If anyone wants the dealer info message me..

I follow untamed on you tube. If any one follows he does follow it a lot on the Pro. And his last video he seeing a lot of Pro’s sitting on the lots much longer now. Seem like customers are stopping to pay all that mark up. Hopefully the dealers will start to feel the pinch.

We took delivery of our 2023 4Runner TRD Premium on Jan 12th, 2023 and paid $46k minus a $9.5k trade in on the XTerra. Deal went down fine and no complaints. The car had exactly what we wanted except the fancy camera system. We waited 5 months for it to arrive. Then another 6 months for the 2nd key FOB. As of this post, we received everything we expected. I had to replace the street tires with A/T 10 ply tires for off road driving. The car crawls around the mountain roads we drive pretty well. It's under powered on the highway, however, and down shifts constantly bucking a head wind. The XTerra had a 4.0L V6 engine ~280HP and weighed 4,800 Lbs. The 4Runner has the same size engine but is 1,500 Lbs heavier. I would have liked to have a V8 but.......

I don't have any mountains to traverse as you might in Colorado so for me the 4Runner has more than enough power and it's a huge step up from my previous 4Runner which had 114 hp but that's only because I paid extra for the optional fuel injection -- the carbureted version only had 98 hp and I thought that was a bit low. But even 114 wan't enough so I sold the 4Runner and bought a brand new Toyota Pickup with 135 hp coming from its turbocharged engine. Now that was a real treat! Sadly, Toyota only put the turbo in the pickups for one single model year. I got tired of all that power so I bought a Land Rover Series II 88" which had -- if I remember correctly -- 57 hp and was fairly capable off road and topped out at a whopping 60 mph on the highway.

Coming from the 2015 XTerra (last year), the 4Runner was our only option as a car closest in capability. Out here in rural Colorado those cars are all over and people are generally happy with them. The car is comfortable to drive and has some nice driver assist and safety features. Many aftermarket parts and accessories are available too. In most ways it's a step up from the XTerra. As for bitching I'd list power, sound system, tinny doors, LCD brightness control and PITA oil/grease service as manageable inconveniences. I did check all the body panels with a magnet and they are steel. Wheels are aluminum alloy which I've had on other cars without problems. We were sweating out the gen 6 drive train which I didn't want. Rumor had it this was coming in 2023?? Our 2023 is a gen 5 and I like a bit of the old school. We enjoy the car for its positive features for which there are many. The moon roof is nice, rubber mats, easier to clean plastic, nicer looking lines, advanced off road drive train, a tad more space, comfortable seats, etc. Today I don't think any vehicle checks all the boxes except with safety features. One or more of which might save your life when some idiot puts you in a bad spot.

No, unless you just want to buy an SR5 and are willing to buy a color that a dealer has sitting on the lot. I've been looking for a lunar rock ORP with KDSS and moonroof to replace my classic silver 2015 TP with KDSS and moonroof. The 2015 only has 60,000 miles on it and I plan to sell it to my daughter in Denver :) After looking since the end of April with four dealers one dealer in Denver finally came thru with an allocation for my 4Runner and I put a deposit down in mid-July - $500 over sticker but I am glad that it didn't have anything extra except KDSS and a moonroof so I can get the predator tube steps that I want  I just feel lucky to be able to buy the model and color I wanted without having to get a bunch of other extras that I didn't want or need. Supposedly it's still on the cargo ship at the port of Long Beach waiting to be unloaded and a guy in Albuquerque told me that this July, even without port add-ons, his 4Runner sat three weeks in Long Beach waiting to get loaded on the train

I bought a 2wd sr5 with hardly options and it went like this

Toyota is running a promotion in my region

Dealer kept my factory cash from T

    I paid Dealer $500

At the time of my purchase I also purchased an extended warranty with Toyota. It is possible to cancel this and receive partial refund, I do not know the terms.

    I paid little doc fees

I was psychologically unprepared for my salesperson telling me about the market adjustment. I felt anger and (self) betrayal. I told him I would like to pay an adjustment several thousand dollars off his number. It felt ridiculous to say. Give yourself little breaks on the sales floor if you'd like.

For me the dealer basically asked me to buy an expensive extended warranty from Toyota and I said yes.

I believe I got exactly the veh I wanted and it's sitting on the lightweight toyo ATs, 115T, now. Perfect. I did little research, but drove corolla all my life (and a tundra 3000 miles at work). My friends have/had nice trucks, 3rd gens, 6 speeds so I am not completely blind. But I have only been inside two 5th gens, mine and the other one like mine at the dealer. Looking forward to seeing more out there:eek:

for clarity, I walked in and bought a car on the lot. I expected them to have it after viewing it on the dealer's site before going to sleep.
