Recently had to change my tire and the jack provided is terrible. It was a huge pain in the butt to change. Can anyone recommend an easier aftermarket bottle jack?

I have the Safe Jack and am very happy with it. Pricey but works well and is packaged in a soft side bag that fits well in my off-road packing scheme…

    Cheers,

Curious what you like about it and why it's had so much value compared to a simple bottle jack? I'm looking into getting one.

the safejack when purchased in a bundle comes with some incredibly useful accessories like extension, flat and U platform. These add ons make it easy to use for lifted vehicles with rock sliders, etc. it’s also in my experience a quality jack

Hey could one of you guys with a Safe Jack please take a picture of it next to the stock jack and post it? Any chance the Safe Jack will fit where the stock jack is stored in the fender compartment?

I pulled out my stock jack and took a few pics compared to the Safe Jack. I tried to fit the Safe Jack into the OEM location without success - it’s just a little too tall.

    Hope the pics help.

    Cheers,
    Bob

Maybe another good thing to check. Does the SafeJack fit in the hi-lift jack base?

The stock jack fits in the hi-lift jack base in case you want to use in a trail / rough ground.
(Ignore the wrong jack point. This was a different test. But I was still able to lift the tire.:))

To me, it seems like the different heads are the biggest advantage of the Safejack over the OEM jack.

Does anyone know if we can attach different heads to the OEM one? The open C option would be great; the OEM jack is pretty slippery.

Yes, the Safe Jack fits on a high lift jack base.

I feel like the ideal off-road jack has yet to be invented. Or maybe some breakthrough will be made with airless tires and the jack will be unnecessary.

I was able to play with the ARB hydraulic jack for a little. I liked it alot. I really do. Its not too big either. But the price was 800 bucks or something like that if I'm not mistaken. Since its also a type of hi-lift jack I can only use on my sliders. I guess those who have aftermarket front and rear bumpers with hi-lift jack points can use it with more options.

Also had a chance to look at the inflatable thing that use exhaust has. Didn't had a chance to try it. I was only able to look and feel. Not sure how good it would be.

I like the idea of the ARB jack. The expense is holding me back.

Is there a drawback other than that? I mean, if you have sliders isn’t it ideal? Safer than a Hi-Lift. Don’t have to get under the vehicle, as with a bottle or scissors jack. Can you think of a situation where you couldn’t use it and you’d want another kind of jack?

A jack needs to be short enough to fit under the axle with a flat tire, yet be able to extend long enough to jack up the frame and get a front tire off the ground. Most hydraulic bottle jacks sold in local stores don't have that kind of travel range. I see two-stage bottle jacks sold online which may work well: https://www.amazon.com/Torin-ATH80402XB-Double-Welded-Capacity/dp/B09Z37N3BS/

Before you order, I suggest fully deflating a rear tire and measuring the clearance under the axle, to make sure a 6.7" tall jack would fit.
The Safe Jack needs those accessories or it actually won't work on the 4Runner, due to the limited stroke.

The 6-ton Safe Jack heads have 1.25" ID, too small for the OEM jack. I think the 12-ton or 20-ton heads may fit.

I don't want to get in trouble just checking it one time and giving recommendation. But I felt much safer than a hi lift jack since the handle it very smooth.

I don't remember ARB has an option to use as a manual winch like hi-lift jack. (since I don't have a winch my hand puller and my hi-lift jack are my last resort winch options and so far I have only pulled a tree. LoL)

I keep one from Harbor Freight in my pop-up camper. Works well. Gets the job done. No bells or whistles, but it lifts the camper easily and allows me to change a tire. Now....if only I didn't have to do so EVERY freakin' time I take the thing somewhere! LOL

In racing it's common to use a screw jack like this: https://agm-products.com/en-ca/collections/jacks/products/manual-jack It weighs only 11lbs, but the 3000lb capacity is marginal for 5th gens. (IIRC the factory jack is 3700lb rated.) Works pretty quickly with a cordless impact on the drive nut.

Safejack has warning that their saddles are not to be used with Toyota OEM jacks. But check this out: https://sites.google.com/site/landcruiserproducts/jack-adapters?pli=1

I went with on of the Mercedes Sprinter Jack of Ebay. German made, curved top, and WAY cheaper than safe jack, those seem way overpriced to me. This thing is heavy, well made, has a double ram that extends very high for recoverys
