Extended warranty is a must for me regardless of Make or Model.
Our 2018 Highlander Rear Shocks had been replaced twice under extended warranty.

Have you checked for the front timing cover leak? I was looking at Siennas with that same engine and, not exaggerating, every one of them on the used lot had a leak there

    Same engine. $5,000 job.

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but no Toyota warranty, 3 year/36k new Toyota, or any extended warranty, will cover rodent-chewed wires, if that's what you're implying. That's like saying they'll replace your radiator under warranty if you run into a tree.

Warranties are for fixing things that break because of what Toyota did, but not because of what Chip & Dale did.

As I recall as a former GEICO agent, I do believe that mouse mastication and rodential rewiring is covered under MBI and comprehensive insurance (to which I highly recommend to people to get as low of a deductible as possible). MBI was brought up and was part of the discussion at the time I posted that.

One thing the VSA would cover though is a ribbon cable that has been pinched or a harness that might have been installed slightly askew and has been melted or damaged because it wasn't properly anchored, etc. Frankly, that happens a lot more with the cars manufactured in North America, but not in Canada. 4Runners avoid most of those riff-raff production crew-type problems because people take pride in their work in Japan. They are also a highly literate society and have their sh|t together in a million different ways.

Yes, the dealer I took my 2-week old 4R to said my vehicle insurer would have to be the one to cover the repair cost of the rodent chewed wire.

Has anyone on the forum used the extend warranty provided by Jerry Johnson and how did it go for you? Just wondering if it went smooth and no question / issues? I have contacted Jerry and he has provided me the info needed but still not totally sure how comfortable I am with this but sounds good in type.

The question should be phrased "Has anybody used the Toyota Vehicle Service Agreement?" That is what Jerry is selling. It is a product provided by Toyota Financial Services.

There are numerous posts in this thread of people who have used Toyota's VSA.

Read along the lines. He is asking about comfort level dealing with Jerry not the VSA per se.
    Are you 'Jerry' :)

I think it’s legit. You can purchase the warranty from any Toyota dealership you want for any price they want to sell it for. Jerry has found a niche and is most likely making more money on volume sales than a high markup on individual sales. I called the dealership and spoke with someone else first and left a message for Jerry so if it is a scam it’s pretty elaborate. No one has complained yet so I trust it’s real. It’s only $1500 and I say that tongue in cheek because people on this app will spend that much on some mod they will never use with out even batting an eye….

    Understood.

An analogous scenario would be: If I buy this case of Dr. Pepper at BitchSusie's checkstand, would it taste all right compared to the register that SweetSandra is working at.

Hey, if you're not comfortable with Jerry, call around. Sometimes comfort is worth paying more for.

I used the warranty at my local Toyota dealer and it was not purchased there. It was very smooth. They just needed to contact Toyota Financial and get the repairs approved. It took about 2 hours to do that. I was at dealer at 730 AM and they had to wait until Toyota Financial employees answered the phone.

The warranty details normally show up against the VIN number at the service Department.
They might just be calling to ensure that particular part/corrective action is covered especially if there are no TSB for the defect.
Am a fan of extended warranty. Got a transmission and differential replaced under warranty costing 12K - Mercury Mountaineer over a decade ago. Worth more the truck at that time :)

Alternatively is to buy a certified used from a Toyota dealership and optional add-on Toyota used car extended warranty. These also cost under 2k. Scrap the deal if the Finance Manager doesn't play ball. They will lose the trade.

    Car Markets are open now.

Was just curious, not in the market. Most everyone on this thread seems to think this is a great deal and something they want. I told myself not to fall for the extended warranty this time around. Didn't get a single use out of the last extended warranty I bought and thought I would "need".

Works for me because my target is to keep my vehicles for at least 10 yrs. Its prorated if sold before warranty ends.

I’m waiting on clarification on this. According to your post I’m not eligible because I did not buy new. I purchased mine in March as a used vehicle with 1772 miles on it. If I am reading the eligibility correct, I can still get the VSA but it would back date to the date it was sold to the first owner (which was January 2023, I purchased in March 2023). Here is what I found for eligibility:Vehicles are eligible for new vehicle Vehicle Service Agreements (VSAs) up to 3 years or 36,000 total vehicle miles, whichever comes first. Coverage is effective from date of first use as a new vehicle and zero miles.4 Coverage expires at maximum time or mileage of the selected plan, whichever comes first.

With just 1772 miles, if you bought from a Toyota Dealership ... Might have been sold as certified. Advise u check your paperwork.

It did. Certified Toyota is 12 month 12000 mile, but it still has 2 years 4 months or 29000 miles on the factory warranty. So I’m not sure why they even include the certified stuff. I’m pretty sure i am eligible to by the extended VSA if I want. Depending on the cost it may be worth it.

This. I wouldn’t bother with an extended warranty if you mod anything.

Otherwise, I’d be borderline tempted at the prices some here are getting for the warrantees.

I just got schooled by the dealership that sold me the vehicle: I did get Certified, which means I lost roughly 2 years bumper to bumper but I increased my power train coverage to 7 year /100K miles. I’m still trying to wrap my head around what this means. I think I’m happier with this but not sure. Any comments appreciated.

*Update: Just got back from my local dealer who pulled my 4Runner up on the Toyota System, mine is not Certified. Still has the factory everything. They couldn’t understand why the person at the selling dealership would tell me that I had lost my 3 year bumper to bumper. So now I am back where I started from and will see what Jerry has to say about eligibility and price. Sorry if I added confusion to the thread.

I only Mods certain parts that can be easily be removed if major dealer service is needed.
I had been denied service before on another vehicle because of aftermarket HID. The tech said the wires in the engine bay interferes with his work. :)

So i removed the HID and serviced the vehicle in another dealership. Then i put the HID back.

Warranties and insurance... It's wasted money until you need them. So it's a gamble people take.

I never bought extended warranties as I always thought of them as overpriced add-ons that the Finance person pushes just to get a commission. Then the engine went out in my wife's Camry not long after the standard warranty expired. She had bought the extended warranty and I teased her about how she wasted her money when she did. The engine replacement cost a small deductible and we had to pay for the oil change. Don't remember how much the warranty was, but it was cheaper than the engine replacement for sure.

When I bought my Evoque, I saw on the forums that a certain dealer would give good discounts on the extended warranty. I didn't realize you could buy a warranty from a different dealer than from where the vehicle was purchased.

The dealer I bought the car from quoted something like $6,000 for the extended warranty. Same warranty from the other dealer was $2,000 (or something like that). That was reasonable in my mind, so I bought it. When I sold the Evoque, I cancelled the warranty and got a pro-rated refund.

I'll be contacting Jerry for the same reasons. Seems like a good deal for extended coverage. Especially since I plan on keeping the 4Runner for a long time.

I usually don't buy extended warranties either.

But after seeing all the motors and shit that could go wrong we ended up getting an extra 7 years or 100k miles for the wifes RX350. That thing has a motor or sensor for everything and hell if I'm paying for it when it breaks.

I forgot what it was but it I think it was a little under $3k.

I don't fault anyone for going with the Jerry-bought warranty. It can be quite useful, I agree, if needed. I am past the time I could get anything from him, so I will be content with what I (don't) have.

I contacted Jerry on Monday, and he called me Monday night to discuss things and see if I was interested in the extended warranty and answer any questions. Tuesday morning, he had it all drawn up and ready to go. I originally told him I was interested in the 10yr 125K but decided to back it off to 10yr 100k since I am pretty sure I will be under 100k since I also drive my BMW as well. He was link no problem I can fix that to make my customer happy with what they want. Saved ~$4K from what my dealer offered to what Jerry offered. Very easy to work with Jerry, highly recommend him.
