What to use to clean the interior ceiling fabric?

What is the best way... (Besides removing) to clean the fabric headliner of the 4runner?

 

1 or 2 teaspoons Woolite to 1 Quart of distilled water in a spray bottle. Lightly spray on surface, don't saturate. Blot, don't rub. Stubborn stains may take a couple applications. After it drys and the stain is gone, you can repeat with plain water to remove any soapy residue not visible(not really necessary though.)

 

Steam and blot.

 

I just use Spray Nine and a microfiber towel, same with all other fabric and plastic interior surfaces (except the gauge cluster acrylic).

 

Have you tried peeing on it?

I've heard that works on a lot of things.

Do you have stains or just dust/dirt? If it's just dusty, the vacuum will do a pretty good job with one of those medium size brush heads. I was pleasantly surprised to find a light gray headliner underneath the dark gray one.

Stains I don't know - every time I try to clean a stain (whether shirt, pants, seats, carpet, etc.) I just seem to make it worse.

 

Normally i get away with the vacuum, this time it requires a bit more. Mostly dirt and one blood stain from a bug i swatted out the window a bit to forcefully. Oh, and she smoked in it, so some nicotine.

 

I used oxi clean for rugs. The stuff you use for your rugs and sofas at home.
I was servicing my sunroof and ended up getting grease spots on the headliner fabric.
A quick spray and rub with damp cloth cleaned right up and no residue.

I’ve also had success using Oxiclean Carpet Stain Remover to clean spots off of my headliner.

I have used upholstery cleaner from the local auto parts store and have had good results. Just don't use the brush that comes with the can. Use a towel to wipe off.
