Limited interior (and amenities) and full time 4WD for me - two of the main reasons I bought a Limited. I'd even keep the wheels/tires and XREAS from the Limited - as I do not plan to off-road - and I like the way my Limited drives on road. I wanted 4WD for snow and for driving on sketchy/rutted dirt/gravel roads going to hiking/biking trailheads. I could have probably gotten by with an AWD vehicle like a Highlander or Honda Passport - but I wanted the rugged body on frame truck construction and higher ground clearance of the 4Runner. I get it that a large percentage of 4Runner buyers are going to go with the non-Limited/Sport bodywork. I, on the other hand, was never a big fan of the "stormtrooper" look of the non-Limited/Sport front end. Just my preference. I know most are not big fans of the chrome on the Limited. I'm OK with it - probably because I'm almost 59 years old and I remember when every vehicle was covered with real chrome. I even prefer the look of the Limited over the Sport that has the same body style/front end - but body colored grill/bumper features instead of chrome. I think it is the contrast I like. Now having said all that - if the chrome pieces on the Limited had a more dull finely bead-blasted aluminum finish instead of the bright mirror finish - kind of like the finish that is on the roof rack/cross bars on my Limited - I'd really like that.

If you are so inclined you should check out PlastiDip to dull those surfaces or change color all together. I've done A LOT of dipping. It's relatively easy and not permanent. Bonus is that if you do it right and decide to remove it your bits will be good as new. Or as good as they were when you dipped.

Maybe the older ones but then you'd have to compare them with an FJ40.

You'd really have to compare a 4Runner to a Cherokee!

what are you talking about? i love our 4Runner. but, about the only thing it beats a Wrangler out of the box on is faster driving on dirt roads. it's also cheaper and easier to make a Jeep do incredible things that a 4Runner simply cannot.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I would still want the surfaces that are chrome looking now to look like they had a metal finish that contrasts with the painted body work. I'm too lazy to deal with it - which tells me its really not that big of a deal to me:)

But maintaining it? Worst car we (wife and I) ever had was a Jeep Cherokee=I've had at least a dozen 4WD and driven 20 or 30 more as a Wildlife Biologist. Would never stake my life on a Jeep!

While there are some trims that I personally don’t want, I’m not going to shit on the owners who prefer those trims. We don’t have to be so tribal that separate forums need to be created per trim just to keep the insults to a minimum.

“Limiteds suck”, “Softex sucks”, “TRD Pros suck”. JFC buy what you like and let others buy what they like. Seems like an easy concept yet some members love to troll other members...

Yeah - I don't get why some people do this. I get the ribbing/good natured ragging on someone - but the constant "XXX sucks"??? I'm guessing that some people think that other people form decisions about them based on the vehicle they drive, the house they live in, etc... News flash - they don't - at least not the people that matter. If you are a prick and you drive a 4Runner XXXXX - then most people will just think you are a prick that drives a 4Runner XXXXX. Going through life thinking that others will form a certain perception of you based on what you drive, live in, wear, etc... is stupid - and will lead to a tough life. I think most of this behavior is due to some insecurity - same as bullying. "I bought XXX, but I shouldn't have because it cost a lot of $$$ and I don't use it/need it - but I'll rag on someone else's decision to make me feel better". Basically - if they can't see this is douchebaggery - they are the douchebag. It's just a big waste of everybody's time - because anyone with any sense and self confidence won't be phased in the least by what some troll in an internet forum says. They just take up space that could be better used for the exchange of good ideas/info. If you can positively contribute to the discussion at hand - do so. If not, STFU.

Maybe the new members arriving, or the ones being frequently insulted, don’t agree that “it’s all in fun”. A one-off comment might be brushed-off as a joke but some trolls here state the same insults over and over and over. In my eyes, that’s no longer a joke. That’s a dickhead that wants reactions…clearly poking people to provoke an argument.
