will Opened Hood prevent ECU from entering sleep mode if the sensor exists?
    Thanks

There is some kind of hood sensor on my 2023 ORP. When the hood is popped it shows a hood indicator on the dash like it does for the doors and hatch.

Unless something changed but 19 TRDP here and no sensor. Toyota is known to just randomly add crap like a heated wheel for 23 even though Canada already had it. Also I found out the Canadian TRD Offroad has dual zone climate that only the Limited and Pro Bro has in the US.

Maybe they added it starting with the 2020 model year when the safety sense was made standard that year?

This a new one for me. I’ll have to check our 2019, though I think a lot of whizbang electronics were added after our year. (We still have a normal key start, and no nanny radar/lane assist goofiness, for example)

My 2014 had a hood sensor, it was an SR5 with navigation. But I do remember not latching the hood and getting a door open indicator when I started the car.

My 2023 still has that sensor and still has the alarm even though my car did not come with the alarm stickers.

Your windshield is also about 75% cheaper to replace without all that big brother stuff on the car.

Man you are lucky. My mom has a newish Jeep GC and her windshield cost $1,700 to replace. State Farm wouldn’t cover it at first but did eventually.

Damn, that seems worth it, with as many windshield cracks as I've had over the years. What company?

It is a battle, they always want to force people into generic glass from China. Often at the evil and incompetent hands of Safelite.

Depends on what state you are in, but I highly recommend Costco members take a look at Connect insurance. Here in California, I have four cars on the account, including two youthful drivers and I pay half of what the next company will cover me for at a $250 comprehensive deductible. No hyperbole involved.

For 50¢ a month for each car, I get a $50 comprehensive deductible. Comprehensive covers glass, vandalism, theft (like catalytic converters), rock slides hitting your car and after supplying Toyota documentation, they covered my $2,200 OEM windshield and Toyota Collision Center calibration. They also covered OEM parts and rear cross traffic radar calibration for a Prius of mine that was pit maneuvered. The repair was nearly twice as much as a typical collision body shop would have charged.

I live in CA and I'm a Costco member. Didn't even realize they had this. Will definitely look into it. Thanks.

No hood sensor on my 2019 (except for my aftermarket security system sensor). I am guessing its on Newer 2020+ and maybe the Limited's.

In California, since the insurance commission does not allow credit ratings and certain historical facts about drivers to be evaluated for rating purposes, membership is your big help.

If there's a government employee in the family, GEICO; military vet, USAA. AAA and Costco require membership as well.

Out of my family's three accidents, my kids were at fault in two accidents (a third was not at fault). We had front and back dash cam video that we supplied to the insurance and, believe it or not, our rates actually went down at the next renewals... (One rear end accident was somebody who cut in front of my kid and jammed on the brakes, the other one was somebody was coming into the lane going the wrong way.)

Costco executive members also get a guarantee of renewals.

I have Costco insurance as well, had them for many years now. Definitely lower than many others, however I only have 1 vehicle so I probably pay about the same as someone with multiple cars since I don't get the multiple car discount. :(

My ‘14 Limited had a sensor as the ecu knew when hood was ajar. Same with my ‘21 Pro.

This video discusses an earlier Tundra, but this glass break sensor/motion detector system has been available as an add-on to the stock alarm on the 4Runner since at least since 2014. I recall the prices around $250 MSRP and I'm having no luck in finding it on their website right now.

The hood sensor is part of this alarm system. If somebody pops the hood from underneath, the alarm goes off.

Must be a 20+ thing. It's on my '20 SR5P. Funny thing is that I can't find a switch anywhere under the hood, at least the traditional pin-style switch. Anybody know how it works? Maybe on the latch under the radiator cover?

It can't be a simple current-draw sensor because there's no under hood light.

Yes. We also have factory remote start, auto headlights, auto high beams on ORP models. My Canadian '22 ORP also definitely knows the hood is open on startup and shows exactly what 08TXRunner posted. Don't see any fender switches guessing it's built into the latch. Although I don't know what model year Toyota made the change up here. No heated steering wheel in mine but it does have heated seats. Unlike the US where available options seem to vary by state or region Canada being a much smaller market seems to be consistent option wise across the board. When I bought mine during Covid my local dealer told me not to bother trying to special order because it wouldn't happen as allocations were that small. I actually didn't have any choice it was an ORP or nothing. Took it cause I had no need for 3rd row seating but could have done without the moon roof.
