Overpriced for what they are. At onetime you could get a base mode Jeep for a reasonable price that a younger person just starting off could afford.

I think this has a lot to do with it. The average price of the Wrangler's have gone through the roof, not to mention the new Wagoneer.

They also have too many trims, 12 for the Wrangler up to $82K. They are making more of the higher trims to maximize profit.

Also, in the subcompact and compact crossover segment, I think people are realizing they are re-branded Fiats with poor reliability.

I've always wanted a Wrangler though. Just never pulled the trigger on one as I don't have a fleet for special purpose cars and I don't think I'd be happy with one as as a daily driver.

    • Overpriced
    • For regular every day driving they suck
    • Competitors stepping up their offroad game
    • Too many trims
    • Reliability questionable at higher mileage

This, plus the last one I had (2017 Wrangler Willys 2dr) wasn't built as well as the 05 and 99 tjs I had previously. At least not IMO.

If I ever get another, it'll be either a CJ5, Scrambler, or TJ.

One other thought; I'm surprised it's just Jeep. Hardly anyone makes a good, solid entry level car or truck that's affordable these days. The few that exist are generally so ugly as to try to shame people into not buying them. Why is it such an extreme expectation to have a nice looking base model anything? It's all the same metal and plastic.

I think its because a jeep is not a "jeep" anymore. Prices went up because they added more creature comforts and tech. To me that defeats the reason for buying a jeep. Also they lost all the reliability. I mean the 4.0 inline 6 and 2.5 4 cylinder were bulletproof. Now they have countless recalls and issues. No wonder sales reclined.

They are overpriced because people buy them like hotcakes though. That's driven up the price, but people buying them aren't offroaders - they've become a status symbol.

On the interstate today I passed two, what looked like new, unlimited rubicons with bar doors. One had a young, fit, soccer mom looking driver who looked like she belonged in Beverly hills. The other had a heavy, poorer looking family that (maybe I'm just being a judgmental prick) I doubt spends a lot of time outdoors

As a long time owner of many Jeeps, this is the reason we now own Toyota or Lexus.

I would still consider buying a 2 door base Wrangler with a manual transmission as a toy. A similarly equipped Bronco would be nice, but those are quite a bit more expensive.

I'm a Jeep guy as well as a Toyota guy. Stellantis has raised their prices more than any other automaker. That's what's happened to Jeep.

That's beautiful! But, I don't know if I could wheel one of those, unless I found one that was already kind of junky. :D

Prior to my 4Runner, I had a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Had tons of storage for small items and performed really nice when it wasn't in the shop for recalls. Was also great on gas.

That was until around 80K miles the transmission blew. Now it's very rare to see that model on the road and I can see why.

    Never would buy another one.

Nobody with an IQ over 100 buys a Jeep for its reliability.

This one was. Had a V-8, 3 on the column (Horrible-I broke my arm in 3 places a few years back and couldn't steer it), tires, horrible crutch (Bad knees), new rims (OEM), etc. I just couldn't drive it!

Selling it broke my heart (it was my second one) but that's how I got my 4Runner. Wife got a RAV4. I've offered to buy her a used 4Runner but she says she's happy with the RAV for around town in the snow.

I can get a stripped down Wrangler for $32K. For $32K I can barely buy a beat to crap FJ40- restored they are double that. A new Wrangler may be pretty low on the reliable scale (compared to a new 4Runner) but compared to all those cool old trucks, it's miles ahead.

One thing about the old FJ40s is that they’re not exactly comfortable for tall drivers. If you’re over 6’ tall, it’s awkward using the clutch and gas. I’d know since I’m over 6’ and have a 1978 FJ40.

    Brah!

You see a lot of these hideous creations in DFW as well. I think every Wrangler in Florida looks like this.

I wished I had kept my TJ unmolested. The 4.0L in-line 6 was a very reliable engine. But, I turned it into a rock crawler.

Nice ghetto blaster though. Good for parties at the mall!

Saw one of those at Home Depot. Bright red and marked "Search and Rescue". Not a speck of dirt on it!

BTW: I ACTUALLY saw a hummer with dirt on it in Monroe, WA once!
