I’m saying the people sending the shitty messages on those forums felt their post count somehow mattered. Definitely not saying I was impressed by it.

I’ve got $$$ into my rig and it’s still under warranty. Did all the work myself. Did the same to my other car too. That being said, do whatever you want to your property with your money. Can we now stop comparing sizes and hijacking OP’s thread?

Nice, dude. Thanks for sharing your list. Sounds like you’re having fun.

What’s your favorite mod so far, if you had to pick one?

Teton Workshop Red Shift knobs, Raptor lights, Baja Fog lights , Red Shackles, rear molle panels, black out lettering, blackout exhaust, fold down seat protective panels (rear seats), LED lights, Fog light brackets with Tri-Color lighting, Black front lower valance, TRD black rims, running boards, roof rack cross bars.
Thanks! The whole reason why I shared my list was to let all know that in a very short time, all of these mods can quickly add up! I’m not complaining, but you can easily get carried away. And instead of posting each modification individually, I figured to post a clean detailed excel sheet list. Anyways, most of these modification ideas came from individual posts here in this forum. So I like to thank you all for the ideas! If my list somehow helps somebody here in their "search" efforts for mods and such, then it is all good! At least that was my intention.

It’s been a fun ride. It is allowing me to enjoy my new 4runner more so than what I drove off from the dealer lot. As soon as I got home, I started with the "mods".

My favorite mods? Tough to pick just one! The rear molle panels look and function great. Keeps my trunk area nice and clean. Looks awesome too! The RED Teton shift knobs looks awesome too (against my black ORP). Adding Baja SAE fog lights with the TRI-color lighting brackets looks soooo cool at night too.

Not necessarily a mod, but more of necessary preventive maintenance to keep my 4Runner looking great...I am a HUGE fan of ceramic coating applied professionally. I have a mirror finish!

    Thanks all...

I DO love me a good excel sheet.

Molle panels look awesome and do a grear job organizing the gear our rigs carry everyday: Fire extinguisher, first aid kit and a small fiskars axe when we’re out and about.

I HATE stuff that rolls around while driving and with a family of 5, i need all the space i can get.

So a 4R with no mods to a small amount of mods done doesnt have a place in this world?

Since when do we need to completely tear down a brand new truck to the frame to exist?

Agreed semprenissart. I would contend that i have spent more time and money on our 4runner than most on this board.

So, let me be heard saying that ANY amount of enthusiasm about this awesome platform or Toyota’s in general (i love first gen 4runners, too, for example) should be welcomed, supported and celebrated, IMO.

Some of my mods (stickers, interior bits) are to personalize/customize for comfort or for plain happiness and some are functional mods (tacobox, lift kit, 33’s, breather kit, bumpers, armor, etc, etc) to allow us to tackle rougher terrain.

These are safe, fun, high quality rigs and will take you to the ends of the earth or down the street for years/decades without fail. I personally love seeing everyone’s efforts to customize, modify or simply personalize their rigs.

Nice ride. Where did you get those aftermarket switches? I installed some "not so good" ones that don't fit very well. Regards.

Kinda felt bad after cuz I din mean to measure dicks with everyone, I just don't like negative dudes on here talkin shit - who have zero posts of any of there handiwork, and who don't address OP.

So I purchased the switches from few places.

I tied in some of them with 1 and 2-light Quick Connect Harnesses that come with switch, relay, fuse, and shielded wire.

I can help you more lol, happy to, wish I had the help:
    Some OEM style dash switches require minor trimming, but more importantly if switches don't fit properly, you need to add an O ring. Proven solution;

A lot of people recommend using a rubber o-ring to improve the fit. Did you try that?

You make a very compelling argument for the molle panels. Stuff rolling around in the back drives me crazy.

Though I’d agree the term mods might not be an accurate depiction, why do you got to bust his balls. He is excited about what he has done. We’re all excited about what we’ve had worked on. I once posted here that I was going to go off roading and a guy immediately started about my running boards. I didn’t know the risks with running boards and off-roading. Now I do and have rock rails. My point is let this and any other person have their moment. We all love our 4Runners. I personally think I’d bust someone’s balls who bought a TRD Pro and never ever plans on even going on a dirt road. That to me is funny. But for the OP he just got it and is making some cosmetic enhancements. As he or she goes on they may or may not make some mods to it. Ain’t no big deal if they do or don’t.

yeah, there’s some cool ($$$) mounts for useful gear, though i got most of my molle stuff at surplus stores or Amazon. Got my quick disconnect fire extinguisher mount at 4wheel parts. Pricey but stout and you can easily swap it to a new fire extinguisher if you have to use it.

Rago fab molle panels are what we went with in 2021, but there’s a handful of options these days.

IMG_4226.jpg Molle panels in the back are a must have. We love them. Other poster mentioned Rago fabrication. I have Ragos for the outside and love them. For the inside of the car I just grabbed a pair off of eBay. I think I paid 150 and they work perfectly. For Ragos I think for the inside they are 350. Nobody sees the inside Molle panels. But for the outside I went with Rago and the quality is superior. You can feel the qualityIMG_4226.jpgIMG_4227.jpg

100% agreed. Rago fab is $$$. Might be cheaper options these days that are just as good (or better).

Rago quality is amazing. I would have done those for the inside but at the time the budget was tight. I spent 7k on mods (Eibach lift Toyo tires Sherpa rack and lighting) and the wife was giving me the “look”. So just to get it done I went with the eBay ones but would have done the Ragos on the inside as well. The Ragos on the outside are amazing. You really feel the quality in Ragos.

Rago’s molle panels and shelf is what we have inside. No complaints at all, other than that price-tag…lol. This is our buy once, cry once build, but i’m with you: happy wife, happy life. That’s why i’m rocking harbor frieght rifle boxes on my rack and no roam, pelican or Aluminum boxes. :D:D:D

I like your thinking on the harbor freight rifle boxes. Do you have the OEM rack or other type? I put the Sherpa roof rack on and my wife likes the look of the boxes on top. But when I told her how much those pelican cost she quickly got over it. Do you have any pics with the HF rifle cases up top? How did you mount those?

bolted to our frontrunner Slimline. They’re very robust and hold a substantial amount of gear. I’m hoping to fit all my hand tools, trail spares and recovery gear up there - to free up the cargo area for food/water/duffel bags. I’m still able to fit in a normal 7’ parking structure(minus the fuel cans)

That looks sharp. Nicely done. When you go out camping or off roading do you leave them up there or take them down. Meaning do you just keep going up there and grabbing what you need or take them down. I really like how that looks. I like your idea of putting tools etc in there. I bring tools with me as well and they are always getting in the way. Do you leave that up there year around or just when you go camping or hit the trails. Looks really sharp. Nice job on that

They’re bolted down, but i empty them, to save on weight for around town driving. I slick the rack down for the same reason (hi-lift, maxtrax, fuel cans, trail boxes, all come off and get stored)

I noticed the jack mounted on top. I was reading about how there is a lack of jacking points, using that type of jack, on a 4Runner. For the rear you can use the hitch as a point but have you solved for a point to jack from on the front. Thanks for all the tips you’ve given me

victory bumper has two jack points on the rear bumper, and we have sliders on the side. Jacking from the front of the slider lifts the front corners pretty well to get a front wheel off the ground.

An alternative to a hi-lift is a “safe jack” kit with the various extensions. We’ve been considering one as a replacement or in addition to the heavy/potentially dangerous hi-lift. (Hi-lifts have to be used with utmost care)

Aaaahhhh yes. I forgot you could jack from the sliders. Thanks for all the tips. I’m learning. We went to the Toyota Jamboree in Texas this past may. That’s where I learned about the importance of rock sliders. I bought the Cali sliders there and their cat covers. That trip was my first exposure to true off roading. I had to do it tho because I had just had the Eibach and tires so I wanted to see how they would perform. Everything held up perfectly. It was nice though having experienced people there to help.

Cutting (or not cutting) and modifying (or not) makes you a person with different priorities, that's all.

Amen. Everyone has different priorities, needs, budgets. Come end of day it’s still a great rig whether you modify it, make cosmetic changes or just leave it alone

When Toyota F's up the 6th gen like they did the Tacoma, all those leased SR5's driving around now will make great CPO purchases and awesome platforms for future builds.

The new Taco looks awesome! What's wrong with it?
